So, the internship started today. I am very excited. I started out by meeting with my supervisors and getting some of the basic stuff figured out (i.e. workplace is casual, the tie is unnecessary, etc.). I then got set up in my cubicle (my very own cubicle!) and went to HR to fill out some forms. In addition, I got a parking pass and a building pass, so that's all good. After a building tour and meeting lots of people, I sat down to watch lots and lots of videos. I started with a stack of about 17 videos, and am now down to 3 (one of which I have to watch in its entirely, however).
I then got my first project assignment: I have to write 4 "kid's book pages" of expository text on leopards, specifically designed to complement a certain story, and written at the 2nd-3rd grade level. It's due Wednesday, but I got a lot of it done this afternoon. The hardest part is getting it at the 2nd grade level. My vocabulary is so limited. I sort of know how it's supposed to sound, but I also want it to be good text. I can work it out tomorrow. I also have another meeting with the department supervisor tomorrow about a future project, and I also have a few "standing projects" (things to do when I'm free). Plus I have a few more projects with another producer, so I'll be kept pretty busy.
Tomorrow I'm bringing in a few cubicle decorations and am making a little "Where's Julien?" sign. At this point, I'm just excited that my cubicle has a coat hook and my name on it.
By the way, the computer they gave me really sucks. I'll deal though.
