it all sounds fantastic! i definitely want to visit that region some day. my ancestral homeland.
lately i've been working at an unprocessed-foods-in-reasonable-portions-with-daily-exercise diet to small but measurable success. i'm sure all the walking you did helped. i know i came back from england down from where i was. but then, english food is shitty.
bavarian food isn't exactly belt loosening. i think it's how much walking and getting lost we did.
mmmmgettinglost.
i think i want to visit some english speaking countries. i was anti-scotland and ireland & london for awhile but now i think i wouldn't mind it so much. that said, my next trip abroad is probably going to be argentina.
english food is shitty. in a pretty good n' greasy way.
Oh no, oh no no no. There is nothing more beautiful than English food. Trust me. If it weren't for bacon sandwiches at the Irish pub in Spain I would have died of starvation and/or general unhappiness with everything that went into my mouth. English food is weird at first, but once you get acquainted, it's delightful. I've been cooking so much of it since I got back from the last trip, it's crazy.
Germany, on the other hand, did goulash, croissants and Fanta quite well. Otherwise we stuck with the Italian restaurants beyond that.
I always lose weight when we go to India even though we are stuffing ourselves with good food. You just don't get any of the processed crap over there and it is all prepared with fresh ingredients.
You might want to see if Chicago has something similar to www.greenling.com here in Austin. We get a big box of locally grown product every other week which forces us to eat what is in season as well as drastically increased our intake of fruits and veggies. Plus it is organically grown and helping out the small farmer.
chicago does have that. but i always worry about having too much leftovers. even a half share is too much for just one person. if i lived with another foodie it probably wouldn't be so much of a hassle.
also, we have to pick up the produce. which is horse. in orlando they put it on your doorstep.
it definitely left a wildly positive impression on me.
i don't think i've seen enough of europe to consider it an all time favorite, but i definitely enjoyed it far more than austria! it's super charming, and much fancier than berlin. which seemed a bit too partyparty for me.
