Birthday Week in Review

Jul 16, 2009 17:25

Wow, this turned out to be one of the most depressing weeks of the year, namely because of the intense heat, rigorous activities that's been taking place at work, not being able to spend time with family at all (work), and I'm without a significant other to turn to as my personal listener; but the week hasn't all been a waste.

On Wednesday, my sister-in-law invited me to go see the new Harry Potter movie, so I somehow managed to take off work and go pick her up, and then she treated me to the movie as a birthday gift (which was very kind of her).  Moreover, on Monday, my mother had given me some really nice polo shirts as gifts.  What really made my day, however, was today at work right after shift--the employee meeting with the company owner, where she gave a presentation on how we were performing as a company, showing charts and figures with very straight forward sentences, and after her lecture she then presented bonuses in sealed envelopes to the select few (or the elite few) of employees whom she believed deserved wonderful bonuses out of all the profits we made this year thus far.

Not surprisingly, I'm always on the list for the safety and performance awards, but she surprised everyone when she presented a new one called the incentive award, which is self-explanatory.  All together, my three bonuses came to a nice figure--$579.41.  I'm impressed with myself.  My hard work has finally paid off.  If I keep up what I'm doing now, I may be eligible for the Owner's Award, which awards a special employee a solid grand ($1,000.00).  I've been given that massive bonus before in the same year that I got my car (2007).  In all honesty, I'm glad to have been given anything at all for my endeavors, and in these difficult times I definitely needed some extra money for bills.

Knowing me, though, I'm going to deposit these dollar bills into my savings account for a rainy day.  ^^
