Chapter 12: Still
It was late in the evening when Junsu and Yunho watched a movie together on the TV in their living room of their home in Japan. Their schedules had long been ended for the day and they sat together on the couch, one had a popcorn bowl in his hands while the other had a package of chips. Instead of watching the movie Junsu's eyes were drawn to the window, were he could see how fluffy white flakes fell from the sky, it was snowing. The other three members went outside drinking together, it was kind of a routine to them. Junsu and Yunho didn't like to drink alcohol so much so they always remained behind, doing something together and when they couldn't think of anything else, they ended up watching a movie.
“Junsu, what are you thinking about? You aren't giving any attention to the movie.” Yunho said after having caught him in his peripheral vision.
“Huh?”
“I thought I would have heard you scream bloody murder by now but unfortunately no reaction from you...” They were watching a horror movie and Junsu always ended up to react in fear, he was actually scared of horror movies but he wouldn't admit it.
“Excuse me, are you trying to say I'll get scared, and above all you enjoy to see that, Hyung?”
Yunho laughed. “Yeah, that's actually the funniest part in watching horror movies with you, after all.” he said. “Now common, tell Hyung what's bothering you.”
Junsu thought for another minute if he should tell the truth about what's nagging him and if he did, then how much could he tell Yunho?
“Umm...”
Yunho turned the sound of the movie off to hear him better.
“Shoot.”
“Well, I'm worried about Jae.”
“Of course, who else.” Yunho said knowing. “Go on.”
“Well, don't you think his little bar tours with the other two are increasing lately?”
“Hmm...maybe only once or twice more than other times. Why?”
“I think...he's avoiding me.” he confessed.
After a while of silence Yunho answered him. “How come you think of that?”
Junsu sighed. So Yunho didn't notice anything like that, does that mean he was imagining things, Junsu thought to himself when he saw Yunho's wondering expression.
“I don't know. We didn't talk much lately because of all the work and so on. And things go slow between us, I just don't know. I mean, the first two weeks of us being together were great, we had some fights but he almost told me every day he loves me. Now it's just..silence, burdensome silence between us. ”
“He's avoiding me” Jaejoong told the other two after his fourth shot, wiping his mouth.
“Who?” Micky asked, slightly drunk.
“Junsu, of course. Right Hyung?” Changmin added.
“Right. See! Changmin noticed, too. Right Minnie?”
“Right.” he smiled, already drunk.
“I don't think so, because Changmin would agree to anything in this state of his. Right Minnie?”
“Right.” he giggled but his mood turned immediately 180° and he got depressed when he emptied his cup.
“Humm...” he whined. “Hyung-deul don't lub me...nobody luubbs me.” he sobbed and used the English word for love.
“He's totally off.” Jaejoong noticed. “Of course we love you, Minnie!” he said turning to him and patted Changmin's back.
“Do you luubb me, too, Yoochun-Hyung?” he asked Micky, pouting and looking with puppy-eyes.
Yoochun laughed first but agreed. “Sure, I luubb you, Changminnie.” he said imitating Changmin's voice and choice of word.
Before Yoochun could turn away Changmin had already kissed him on his cheek.
“Good.” Changmin said and that was his last word because he fell immediately on the table with his head and fell asleep, already snoring.
“I can't believe this.” Micky said, not knowing how to describe his shocked state else, wiping his cheek.
“Always unpredictable.” Jaejoong added, looking at Changmin. “Anyway, let him be. Now we can talk about my problem.”
“And that was?”
“Junsu!”
“Of course.” Yoochun rolled his eyes.
“Well it's so awkward between us nowadays.”
“Why?”
“Don't know. He won't talk with me. It has been a long time since he...he kissed me...or..” Jaejoong said and his alcohol flushed face reddened deeper.
“Oh please! No details about your actions!” Yoochun complained, covering his ears.
“Okay, okay...” Jaejoong lowered Yoochun's hands. “It's just that...there's this stillness.”
“I see. Does he tell you he loves you? Or shows you any affection lately?”
“In the beginning he did. It was great in the beginning of our relationship. But I was the one who always told him I love him. I think he got tired of that so I stopped because he didn't talk to me anymore. And now everything got worse!”
“Well at least you're not fighting...”
“But if we would fight we could clear out our misunderstandings! We're not even at that level!”
“Ahhhh! Chincha...Hyung, you're making my head ache! I have no idea what you could do then!” Yoochun said annoyed, dizzily taking his head in his hands when he felt how the alcohol was fogging his mind and taking control of his system.
“Are you okay, Yoochun?” Jaejoong asked slightly worried because he feared he had to take home two drunken members now.
“Yeah, yeah, just slightly dizzy.” he answered with closed eyes.
“Sorry to make you worry over my problems.” Jaejoong said feeling guilty.
“No, no, Hyung. It's alright. That's what friends are for, sharing your problems with. What about trying to seduce him?” he asked then with his new idea and looking with anticipation in Jaejoong's eyes.
“THAT'S actually...” he began yelling and Yoochun's expression turned into a sad one hearing Jaejoong yell at him.
“...not a bad idea!” Jaejoong continued and his expression turned into a bright one, he was drunk by now, too and the last word he hi-coughed out.
Yoochun, too brightened up when he realized Jaejoong wasn't yelling at him and he took his bottle and raised it in the air, colliding it with Jaejoong's and cheering together. The noise of clattering glasses woke Changmin up who sulked mumbling something incomprehensible and doze off again.
Yoochun held a finger to his mouth shushing to Jaejoong and they both chuckled silently.
“How long are you together now anyway?” Yunho asked Junsu.
“Um...two and a half weeks?!” Junsu answered, himself being perplexed.
“Are you kidding me? That means you guys only aren't all over each other for just three or four days!” Yunho said now angry at Junsu's act as if they weren't talking for ages. He didn't understand his concern.
“Maybe...but it feels longer than that! I mean we used to stick together since we're together! There is something wrong!”
“I don't believe you.” Yunho shook his head.
“Hyung! You're totally not helping me with my problem!”
“Okay...how about you show him some affection if you think that's lacking in your relationship. Make the first step! How about putting up an event?” Yunho suggested and to his surprise Junsu was happy again.
“That's a good idea, Hyung!”
“Thank you.” Yunho smiled at him. “See, Hyung has always a solution to stuff like this, after all I'm experienced. So ask me again, if you have problems in this area.” he said bragging about himself.
“Yeah, yeah.” Junsu said lowly rolling his eyes. Typical Hyung, he thought.
“So I'll go sleeping. Good night then, Junsu.” he said patting his head, turning off the TV and going to his bedroom.
“Oh, if the others come and ring, make sure to open the door if you hear it, otherwise if I hear it, I'll let them in myself, okay?”
“Okay. Night, Hyung!” he called after Yunho who waved him off.
Junsu was sitting now alone in the living room on the couch and staring at the blank TV, thinking about what kind of event he could put up for Jaejoong. He thought maybe he should wait for Jaejoong's birthday till that and buy him a grand present instead. Or make something really personal, such as write a diary and give it to him. But this idea he had saved for their one month anniversary which would be some days after his birthday. He then came up with the idea of an intimate candle light dinner in their home and thought of how to get the other three members out for that night when he heard the tumult at the door.
“Yoochun! Why am I carrying most of Changmin! I'm dying here, help me!” he said sighing heavily.
“That's not true, Hyung! I can't stand properly myself and I'm willing to carry Minnie's heavier body part while trying to open the door! That's unfair. If he just would've stopped trying to kiss every moving thing which comes in his way it would be a lot easier!” Yoochun complained while avoiding Changmin's mouth which searched for something with a smooch formed on his lips. Yoochun was carrying Changmin's upper part under his arms so he was the most probable aim for the formed kiss.
“I can't believe he's sleeping when he's doing that!” Jaejoong said and heaved Changmin's legs higher in his arms, avoiding to crash under his weight.
Junsu opened the door and he saw how Yoochun tried with difficulty to ring the bell after not being able to get his keys.
“What are you doing there?” he asked them confused.
“Thank god, Junsu. I thought we'd die here.” Yoochun said and he and Jaejoong continued to carry Changmin inside.
Junsu immediately helped them carry when he saw how they walked themselves being unstable.
“Yuk.. You guys all stink of alcohol and smoke!” Junsu said rubbing his nose after they threw Changmin on his bed with difficulty. Junsu took off the stinky jacket off Changmin but when he moved him Changmin grabbed him and pulled Junsu down for a kiss, he didn't know what he was doing, or to whom because he had his eyes still closed and was totally drunk. Junsu was shocked and completely frozen.
“Changmin! Stop!” Yoochun said and pulled him away from Junsu but Changmin refused to let Junsu go and had his grip on him.
“JUNSU!” Jaejoong yelled and shook him. When Junsu heard his name roll off Jaejoong's lips he woke up from his trance and pushed Changmin away. Yoochun helped him and he freed himself from Changmin who fell asleep again on his bed.
“You little jerk! Trying to break relationships or what?” Yoochun yelled at his sleeping form while he stood up and looked at the other two. They just gazed at each other which made Yoochun feel slightly scared.
“Ehehe...don't take it to serious, you guys! You know Minnie's drunk and...and he kissed almost everyone today, or tried it. I mean, he even kissed me!” he tried to solve things out.
“But not on your lips.” Jaejoong said through gritted teeth and very silently but they both could still hear it very good.
Junsu looked shocked at Jaejoong.
“Are you trying to say something, Jae?” he asked lowly but very clear.
“Why didn't you pull away?” he asked now angry.
“I was shocked!” he yelled back.
“Hyung, it was an accident!” Yoochun said, trying to help.
“Yoochun, go sleep. It was a long night.” Jaejoong said after a while. Intimidated from the glare he gave Yoochun, Yoochun went to his bedroom he shares with Yunho after he said good night to them, hoping they would solve things out.
“Oh, Hyung! You're not sleeping?” Yoochun asked Yunho once he was in.
“How can I with this noises? What's going on?” he said wanting to stand up from his bed.
“Don't ask, Hyung. Just drop it. Minnie the little rascal kissed Junsu in his drunken state while Jaejoong-Hyung and I saw it and he's throwing a fit! I think they're arguing by now.” he said while changing into his pyjamas. Still being not sober Yoochun was going to fall to the floor when he tried to put on the trousers of the pyjamas while standing on one foot. Yunho who stood up to go and check on the couple caught Yoochun with his fast reflexes and helped him to his bed.
“I think you all should stop drinking so much from now on! See where this got you and Minnie!” he said while covering Yoochun under the blanket.
“You're right. I'm sorry.” Yoochun said with a low voice apologetically.
“Good night, Yoochun.” Yunho said and got in his own bed deciding not to disturb the other two in the end when he didn't hear them making anymore noise.
“Night, Hyung.”
When Junsu and Jaejoong went silently back to their own room, not having exchanged another word after Yoochun left, they put on their sleeping clothes. Junsu went to the bathroom after that, he decided to wash his mouth and took extra long time brushing his teeth, wanting to get rid of Changmin's alcohol taste. Although he didn't even open his mouth in the kiss he was sure he could taste it. When he was beginning the second time brushing Jaejoong knocked on the bathroom door.
“What takes you so long?”
“I'm bruming my meeb”
“What?” he can't make out a single word and opens the door, to his surprise it's not locked.
“I said I was brushing my teeth” Junsu told him after rinsing his mouth with water.
“Oh...”
“I hope I won't get nightmares of that taste yuk, Changmin that bastard.” he said and shuddered at that idea.
Jaejoong looked at him and was amused at his reaction and he felt immediately apologetic to him. He wanted to say sorry to him, suspecting him earlier.
“Listen..about earlier...” he began, walking towards Junsu who stood by the sink. But he was a little unsteady himself and slipped, Junsu caught him by his shoulders and when he sniffed him his expression cringed.
“Yuk...you reek of alcohol, too.” he said and Jaejoong held himself onto the sink, going away from Junsu. Junsu took a few steps back. They both were a bit disappointed of the other. Jaejoong by Junsu's reaction and Junsu by his liking of alcohol.
“So that's how it is.” Jaejoong said stiffly, looking into the mirror above the sink more than to Junsu.
“Why don't you just stop drinking alcohol, Jae? Look what it makes of you guys!”
Jaejoong first wanted to apologize to Junsu but now seeing him react so disgusted of him he forgot that.
“If you've wanted someone who didn't drink you shouldn't have chosen me as your boyfriend. You knew exactly I drink from time to time.” he said coldly.
Junsu was more shocked.
“I didn't know from time to time meant every second day.” he replied as coldly.
Jaejoong felt a tear rolling down his chin.
“That's because you've been avoiding me.” he said honestly.
“No I didn't! You did, Jae. You stopped being affectionate!” Junsu said furiously.
“No, you! There was just so much work lately. Maybe we both were suffering under it.”
“That's a lame excuse. Anyway, I'm sleepy. Go sleeping, too after you get rid of this smell.” With that he walked pass Jaejoong leaving him standing there frozen without clearing their argument.
Jaejoong never felt this hurt after being together with Junsu. But he silently took his toothbrush and did brush his teeth, rinsing his mouth more than used to, hoping he got the alcohol scent away to not anger Junsu more. He washed his face, feeling sober by the time that passed and looked into the mirror. He could see his puffy red eyes, not knowing if it was from the alcohol or because he cried while cleaning himself. He dried his face with a towel and went back to his bed, seeing Junsu already tugged in under his blanket.
He went to his own one and put the blanket above himself. He thought for a while then decided he had to talk to Junsu now. If he wouldn't clear the misunderstandings now, he never would he thought.
“Junsu.”
“...”
“Junsu!”
Still no reaction.
“Junsu..I don't know if you're listening or not...maybe you're not sleeping and if you can hear me, which I hope...” he spoke looking up to the ceiling when he didn't see Junsu move to the slightest.
“...then just listen, okay?” he continued, feeling the knot building up in his throat while speaking.
“I'm sorry. About suspecting you, being angry at you, about everything I did wrong in your opinion. In the last few days, I had the impression you avoid me. I don't know if it's true or not. I thought you got tired of me. That's why I spent more time with Yoochun and Changmin at bars. Because I thought you weren't affectionate anymore with me that's why I wasn't all cuddly anymore. But previously you said I wasn't the one affectionate. So I think this is a misunderstanding on both sides.” he said and rolled to his side, watching Junsu again. Junsu had shifted with his back to Jaejoong.
“I'm sorry about snarling at you earlier. I honestly don't want you to have any other boyfriend but me.” he continued and with the last sentence he began to sob.
“I'm sorry I drank so much, I'll stop that from now on.” Jaejoong cried by now. Tear streaming down his face.
“But when I saw you kiss Changmin earlier...I think my heart stopped for a moment...I know he was drunk...”he cried out, sobbing within the words.
“...but when you didn't pull away...I began to think that maybe you felt it was a nice change for you, Junsu...because I don't know if you still love me anymore...” he rubbed his eyes but his tears kept flowing.
”But I still love you, Junsu...”
