Kim Jong Il Nuclear Fallout & Foley Aides...

Feb. 17, 2006. I predicted that North Korea would become a threat before the ultimate showdown with Iran.

Today that happened with North Korea exploding a multi-kiloton nuclear weapon. You know... We haven't since the Clinton administration paid the cumshaw which "halted" the nuclear ambitions of Kim Jong Il.?!?... Bush has received some blame for this... whatever.

However, when Clinton sold our missile technology to the Chinese, it looked foolish to arm our enemies. I mean when we armed the Taliban against Russia, that seemed good. In retrospect, not so much... Seems like now, China having long range missiles can provide some additional protection from North Korea, and since China is condemning North Korea's nuclear acquisition and testing, it takes the pressure off of America in the diplomatic/military response, China apparently being also an important trading partner of North Korea...

This could be really bad to have Asian peninsula destabilized during the destabilization of the Middle East... but this arming of China may be a saving grace. Who-da thunk.

Patronage. I remember back when Louisiana's drinking age was 18, and religious mothers less tolerant of gay children. A phenomena that I observed was that I had several young friends who were taken care of by older gay men. Now, I don't recall the age of consent, 16 or 17, but when mothers kick you out or when you just want to be taken care of, adored, and bought nice things when you're young and beautiful, this sometimes happened.

In the wake of the Mark Foley scandal, where he IMed congressional pages, of the age of consent, lewd things, my memory was brought back to the deep South where the line was blurred between patron and pedophile... It was sad seeing friends having disease by the time they got finished with high school (if they finished). And, one of my friends' friends even died when we were in college, he about 26 with AIDS, kicked out of home, no insurance, and infected. I see these young guys now, having not seen Philadelphia, or lived through the fear of the 70s/80s AIDS epidemic... With more support from families, not having the same dependence upon the patronage system, and ironically without the mentoring that that relationship brought.

Kids are doing stupid, stupid things, and because this generation has lost any sense of the importance of history, the collective memory has forgotten that drugs and sex are dangerous. So, while these 16 & 17 yr olds are "consenting adults", they remain still easy prey. It does remind one, that even under the liberal interpretation of Paul's condemnation of what is anachronistically "homosexuality", that I think this is the sort of thing he had in mind.
