So I’ve finally found time to post an entry about my wonderful trip to Madrid. Initially, I was set to leave for Madrid on December 13 but, as usual, rotten luck struck me the night before leaving. That Wednesday was hell. After an almost-sleepless night, I woke up very early in the morning, went to the university, went shopping in the afternoon, packed my suitcase later on, went to my cousin’s birthday party in the evening. When I got back home, I was so exhausted I could not even keep my eyes open. And one hour or so later, I collapsed. My parents said it was because I don’t eat, my doctor said it was because I don’t eat enough plus I suffer from too much stress. Either way, I obviously couldn’t leave for my trip on Thursday, so I had to postpone it for a few days. I left on Sunday.
The vacation was shorter than we planned but amazing.
Day One
This is Plaza Mayor, where there was a huge Christmas market. You just have to visit Madrid at Christmas time. It’s crazy! People dress up and crowd in the streets, it’s very very funny.
Tio Pepe at Puerta del Sol.
Madrid’s emblem, called “El oso y el Madroño”, at Puerta del Sol.
The night of our arrival we went to eat at one of the many “Museo del Jamon”, literally a ham museum where you could eat anything related to ham.
Day Two
Our hotel was located in this beautiful square.
Puerta del Sol on a Monday morning.
Chocolate con churros. I ate it just once, it’s delicious but extremely fatty.
The Metropolis palace on the Calle Alcalà/Gran Via. It’s huge and just awesome.
El Palacio de las Comunicaciones. It’s a post office, an enormous one.
This one speaks for itself!
A fountain at Paseo de recoletos.
A beautiful (and quite expensive!) restaurant at Paseo de recoletos.
Hard Rock Café! It’s a must for me. Too bad I dropped my camera and broke it while I was in the shop. It still works though.
One of the many enormous El Corte Inglés.
Oh, here comes the best part of that day. This is a F1 exhibition dedicated to my idol Fernando Alonso, at Avenida Felipe II.
I was literally in trance when I visited it, you all know I love Formula One. There was everything Alonso has ever driven, from his first kart to last year’s McLaren Mercedes.
The fabulous MP4/22
Bow down to the Bicampeón. I posed for a few pictures on that podium. But I’ll spare you.
The Renault which helped him become F1 World Champion.
I have tons of other pics from the Formula Alonso exhibition, but I think those I posted are enough.
The best pasta one could ever eat. THE.BEST.EVER. I love you Vips.
The coffee, on the other hand, was disgusting. But I’m a coffee addict, so I had a lot anyway. It seems like they don’t even know what an Espresso is there in Madrid.
Day three
Museo del Prado. The weather was awful that day, it was rainy and windy.
Museo Nacional Reina Sofia. It was closed that day.
Atocha railway station, which has a big beautiful indoor garden. I think you may have heard its name in the news, since it was one of the locations of the terrorist attack which took place in 2004.
Pizza “Margarita”, as they call it. We went to one of the very few Italian restaurants that evening. That pizza had quite nothing to do with our tasty Margherita anyway, but whatever, it was still quite good.
Day Four
Christmas decorations outside another Corte Inglés.
Torres KIO. Twin bent towers.
Again.
Another amazing place to visit: the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium!
Leaves you breathless.
Spa in the dressing rooms. Oh, footballers.
Raul’s shoes. We got to visit the Real Madrid Museum, where you could see trophies, players’ shoes, golden balls, golden shoes, etc.
Estadio Santiago Bernabeu is truly worth a visit.
Another day, another pizza, this time better than the previous one. And look what they gave us to slice it!
Last night at Plaza Mayor.
Apart from the cold weather killing my lips and hands, the trip was fantastic. I took lots of other pictures, but I don’t really feel like posting them all!
I miss Madrid. I’m sure I’ll be back someday.
That’s all folks!
