"This is never gonna work."
"Shut up."
"It's crooked. A little to the left."
"I think we should painted flowers on it. Hyung loves flowers."
JaeJoong huffed in exasperation and tried not to bite a hole through his bottom lip. He had bitten at it so much in the last week it had become raw.
"Maybe we shouldn't do this. Yunho isn't big on attention being on him. He'll probably hate this." Junsu waved his hand dismissively and eyed the banner that red 'Happy Birthday Yunho'.
"I think he's gonna love it. And look, the banner is perfect. Now all that's left is the cake." As if on cue, Yoochun burst out into nervous laughter. JaeJoong sighed for the millionth time and Changmin just scoffed.
"You see, there's a really funny story about why I don't have the cake." Grabbing his coat, JaeJoong rushed towards the door. He silently cursed to himself. He should have known better than to entrust one of the most important parts of the party up to the members.
He pressed the button for the elevator and folded his arms tight across his chest. He knew that if he brought his hands up to his mouth he'd chew off another nail. The stylist would have a fit. When the doors of the elevator opened, instead of an empty space, there stood Yunho. He smiled wide and chuckled.
"The heavens must have known that your face was the first face I needed to see. "JaeJoong laughed nervously and stepped on the elevator with Yunho, push the button for the lobby. Yunho looked at JaeJoong confused.
"Then the heavens must also know that you shouldn't go in the apartment right now. I just left cause Chun and Junsu were arguing and Changmin was singing to drown them out," Jae chuckled nervously. "It's a mess as usual." Yunho nodded in understanding and JaeJoong silently thanked God for the dysfunction of his members. If that excuse hadn't actually been true at some points in their lives of living together, Yunho would have never bought it.
"So where are we going?" Not to get a cake, that's for sure, JaeJoong thought to himself.
"Well…. We could go get something to eat. You've gotta be hungry after such a long flight." Yunho shrugged.
"I guess I could eat," He gave JaeJoong a sly smile. "But I had thoughts about eating something else instead. Ya know, in honor of my birthday and all." JaeJoong swallowed hard and took a deep breath to keep from getting overwhelmed. He had been in a constant state of wanting to fuck the shit out of Yunho all week but now wasn't the time for such distractions.
"Uh, we…do you want breakfast food? Or lunch type or maybe dessert?" Yunho chuckled and threw his arm around the shorter mans neck.
"Anywhere is fine. As long as it's just us." Just us! The words went off in JaeJoong's like firecrackers. He knew from the start that Yunho wasn't the party type, but he really had wanted to do something different. As a result the last week had been stressful for no reason. JaeJoong pulled Yunho in the direction of their buildings parking garage.
"I know the perfect place."
----
The sounds and smells of the night were the ones that made JaeJoong feel the safest and happiest. Next to them, Yunho sat with his birthday cake. He picked a strawberry out of the frosting and offered it up to JaeJoong who took a bite out of it and hummed his approval.
"That's good." Yunho nodded, licking frosting off his lips in unnecessarily sexual way. JaeJoong shifted his chair. The breeze coming off of the water was enough to keep his penis from getting out of hand.
"So in what stage did the others ruin your party plans for me?" The question combined with the smug tone was enough to make JaeJoong gasp.
"How did you know I was throwing you a party?" Yunho smiled and shrugged, twirling his fork between his fingers.
"You're an awful liar," He gestured to JaeJoong's hands. "And all of your fingernails are nubs which means you've been stressed about something." JaeJoong folded his hands tighter in his lap and bit his lip.
"Are you upset? I just wanted to do something different for your birthday." The leader of their group put down his fork and stood up from his seat. He walked over to JaeJoong and squatted down in front of him. Once he was eye level, he took Jae's hands in his.
"Of course I'm not upset. I'm so happy that you wanted to go through the trouble of throwing me a party. But spending time with you, like this, I couldn't ever want for more." JaeJoong's pinched and bottled up nerves and anxiety melted away almost instantly. He leaned for and locked lips with Yunho in an much anticipated kiss. Their lips touched languidly, soft then hard for a few stolen moments before they parted to take a breath. Yunho's reached out and caressed JaeJoong's cheek. Jae leaned into the touch and closed his eyes.
"Happy birthday Yun."
