Sunday mornings are Yunho's favorites. The smell of brewing coffee and fresh cut grass is the first thing his senses take in and it makes him smile. Stretching out, he reached out to touch the spot where JaeJoong should have been but he was met with cold sheets. Sitting up, he finally opened his eyes and was met with bright sunshine.
JeJu was beautiful everyday, but there was something about the onset of Spring that made it even better. Kicking his feet over the side of the bed, Yunho stood up into a full stretch and ran his fingers through his sleep mussed hair. His back ached, but it was a gentle reminder of the intimate moments he shared with his lover the night before.
Yunho found his handsome boyfriend sitting at the table, glasses perched on his pretty nose. His focus was on his book of the moment, something about cat species, and his finger rimmed his coffee mug absentmindedly.
"Do you want me to get you a cup of coffee?" Never looking up from his book, JaeJoong started to scoot away from the table. Yunho smiled and laid a gentle hand on the raven haired mans shoulder.
"I've got it sweetheart. How long have you been up?" Yunho grabbed his mug, a red sparkly thing JaeJoong had made for him when he was going through his pottery phase. It was gaudy and lumpy and the handle wasn't fully formed, but it was Yunho's favorite mug and rarely drank out of anything else.
"Long enough to cut the grass and open up the house. It's so beautiful today," JaeJoong smiled up at Yunho over the top of his glasses. "We should take the dogs for a walk." Yunho nodded in silent agreement as he sipped on his coffee. On Sunday's there were no rules, routines, or to-do lists. They didn't answer work related phone calls or emails and there was no urgency to be anywhere. Quite frankly it was paradise.
Warm arms wrapped around Yunho's waist and the smell of wood, grass, and musky cologne filled his nose. He felt his manhood twitch in his sweat pants as response. Look down, he was met with JaeJoong's beautiful, upturned face. He smiled and sat his coffee on the counter and returned the embrace.
"I love you." JaeJoong smiled and pressed his face into Yunho''s chest. He tightened his arms briefly before relaxing again.
"I love you too. I love it when you tell me you love me. It's like music." Yunho closed his eyes and buried his face into the shorter mans hair. Memories of the first time he confessed his love to JaeJoong flooded him. Then suddenly laughed. JaeJoong tilted his head up, a questioning look on his face.
"What?" Yunho shook his head, still chuckling.
"The first time I said I love you was on a Sunday. Twelve years ago." It was something Yunho would never forget. He and JaeJoong had been finishing their post undergrad education, Yunho in Law School and JaeJoong completing residency. Back then, they were roommates looking for any moments that weren't covered in books, classwork, and projects. It had been the busiest and most stressful time of their lives and there were rarely any moments that they could steal for themselves.
"That was such a good day," JaeJoong stepped back from Yunho and walked over to the table to grab his mug of coffee. "It had been our first day off in ages and it was wonderful. You were super cute back then." He winked over the rim of his mug and Yunho rolled his eyes.
"I'm still cute, thank you very much," JaeJoong shrugged "I remember exactly how it came up. You were eating a slice of pizza and complaining about something shitty Changmin had done at the hospital and-"
"Oh my God I was pissed. He had given me all of the geriatric patients so he didn't have to deal with anyone over the age of 7. God he was such a conniving little prick." JaeJoong let out an annoyed huff and sipped from his coffee.
"And you were so cute. I remember thinking how cool it was to have you to come home to all the time and how wonderful it was to share things together. I didn't want it to end. So I said it," Yunho laughed. "And then you didn't speak to me for three days." JaeJoong blushed and ran a hand through his jet black hair. It was one of his more endearing habits.
"I was stunned! I had had a crush on you since we met in general biology our freshman year of college. You were so confused and it was the funniest thing because here you were, mister handsome soccer player, who didn't give two craps about letting people know when you didn't know what the hell was going on. Call me weird but that was hot." They both laughed at that, the memories of their younger selves seemed like ones that belonged to someone else because they were so far away. Now they were both successful and happy and together and wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.
"How about that walk?" JaeJoong nodded his agreement and ran off, shouting for their dogs. Yunho shook his head and went back to the room to grab a shirt and shoes. Once he was ready, he went into the living where he found JaeJoong with their two dogs, Kimchi their Goldendoodle, and Red, their Labrador. JaeJoong's smile light up his whole face and elicted a matching smile.
"Ready to go?" Yunho nodded and grabbed one of the leashes. Together they left their home, hand and hand. Sunday moments like these were truly the best.
