Book Review: Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate DiCamillo

There's not usually much to say about Newberry winners. :) You either love them or they're a grudge to read. But this is a sweet one. And it only took 45 minutes for me to start and finish.

To summarize quickly, Because of Winn-Dixie is the story of a little girl named Opal who find an abandoned dog. She takes care of him and slowly comes to realize that this dog brings together all the people in her life. She learns lessons about how everyone has value beyond most people's first impressions and most importantly, she learns about her mother, a woman who left her and her father, aptly called "Preacher" by Opal. Obviously the best scene in the whole story is when Winn-Dixie runs away during a thunderstorm and Opal and Preacher have it out in the middle of the road with rain pouring down. THAT scene makes me wanna see the movie right now.

It's a quick, darling read. And I highly recommend it.
