So, here are some songs that I'm currently listening to over and over again, and why I'm doing so.
1.
Secret Smile - Semisonic It's all about the lyrics with this one:
"Nobody knows it but you've got a secret smile
And you use it only for me
Nobody knows it but you've got a secret smile
And you use it only for me
So use it and prove it
Remove this whirling sadness
I'm losing, I'm bluesing
But you can save me from madness..."
2.
Long Line of Cars - Cake Eh...it's not the lyrics, it's the voice. Some Cake songs are very plain, lyric-wise. I mean, there's always a metaphor in there, and if you sit and think about it, there's a wealth of meaning to all the songs, but the songs themselves are simple in the fact that they repeat a lot. Still, I love them because of their masterful addition of the trumpet and his voice is so...I dunno how to describe it. It sends chills down my spine. I love it.
3.
Fine Again - Seether This is the song I play when I feel like life has kicked my ass one too many times. Why? The lyrics. Despite the title, this is not a happy song. It's saying that even though everything is going to be fine with time, it feels like that time is coming too late. Everything is already screwed up.
"It seems like every day’s the same
and I’m left to discover on my own
It seems like everything is gray
and there’s no color to behold
They say it’s over and I’m fine again, yeah
Try to stay sober feels like I’m dying here
And I am aware now of how
everything’s gonna be fine one day
Too late, I’m in hell I am prepared now,
seems everyone’s gonna be fine
One day too late, just as well..."
4.
I Don't Wan't to Fall in Love - She Wants Revenge This is a song with club beat. Very easy to get caught up in, and I love the lyrics of the chorus as well:
"1...2...3...4,5,6,7,
Right face wrong time, she's sweet
(But I don't wanna fall in love)
Too late, so deep, better run cause
(but I don't wanna fall in love)
Can't sleep, can't eat, can't think straight
(I don't wanna)"
5.
Sex & Candy - Marcy Playground This has a very languid beat, something that seems very mellow until you pay attention to the lyrics. Almost sensual, in that liquid kind of way. No rush, just sit back and enjoy.
6.
Gravedigger - Dave Matthews It's a kind of creepy song, but not really. Mostly haunting, IMO. I love it.
7.
I Hate Everything About You - Three Days Grace I love it because I think it's funny. And the lyrics also applies to a few couples I ship.
"Every time we lie awake
After every hit we take
Every feeling that I get
But I haven't missed you yet.
Every roommate kept awake
By every silent scream we make
All the feelings that I get
But I still don't miss you yet.
Only when I stop to think about it...
I hate everything about you
Why do I love you..."
8.
Rabbits are Roadkill on Route 37 - AFI I have a morbid fascination with the title, because my friend A actually did run over a baby rabbit once. It wasn't on Route 37, it was on campus, but still...
9.
We Used to Be Friends - The Dandy Warhols God, Veronica Mars Season 1 was so awesome. Awesome beyond belief. No wonder Season 2 couldn't hold up. Yeah, anyway, that's why I love this song. In memory of the fabulous mystery of the first season and in blatant defiance of the bland mystery of the second season.
10.
Scarborough Fair - Sarah Brightman I like this song for reasons I can't explain. It reminds me of fantasy worlds, or fairy worlds. The music is very light and airy, and so is her voice.
