Renaissance Faire

I went to the Ren Faire today. The park got hit by at least one tornado on Memorial weekend, and almost 50% of the trees are snapped in half. The place looked completely different. Most of the trees were just piled along the paths and road still.

I missed the jousting, but got to see a fire breathing juggler, a sort of belly dance/music group, and the belly dancer girl looked like she was about to pass out from the heat and humidity by the end, and Rouge Blades, the Ad-lib edition. They decided they were Knights, Jedi Knights for that show. And there was much audience heckling. I pulled out my camera to film at one point cause it was just so funny, and the actors started whining, "Oh no, this will be on facebook this evening!"

And I was like, "Challenge accepted!" :D

I took pics of the jousting horses. One was a 25 year old black percheron fellow, soon to be retired. He looked really old, and cute. He put his head down for the kids to pat him. I guess he was a great horse in his day, and used to come galloping when he heard his man in armor. He was really cute, and his man was getting choked up talking about him when he was young, and how he's going to retire on his farm in a big pasture and "live in luxury".

All the horses and people were suffering badly from the heat. The jousting ended early I think, that's why I didn't even make it to that side of the park in time to see anything much. I was delayed because the sharp gravel on the ground and debris were so bad and painful to walk on, I could hardly move. I wasn't the only one having trouble either. They couldn't rake the damn paths?!

I stepped on a sharp stick and it went completely through my sandal and into my foot! I pulled it out of my foot and out of my shoe, but holy crap. I should have worn my work shoes, but if that had pierced my work shoes and orthotic insert, that would have been almost $600 worth of stuff ruined. I'm two months behind on rent (stupid medical bills), those shoes are irreplaceable right now.

I tried some homemade root beer that was good, and chocolate dipped cheesecake--which I highly recommend. I bought an embroidered mask for my wall and some perfume oil stuff. It's vanilla rose scent, and I hope it doesn't make me smell too much like an old lady. It smelled really good there, with all the other scents mingling in. I wanted some kind of orange and vanilla scent, but I didn't like any there. Oh, I also got stupid and bought these black furry little ears, that have metal studs on the strap. They look cute, but where else am I going to wear them??? Akihabara?

There was a woman who made glass figurines, and she had some beautiful hanging glass dragons and hummingbirds. She had large ones that looked like foxglove stalks with a hummingbird feeding from them. She also had pretty little fairies. There were very expensive, but a hummingbird might come home with me if I go another week....

I also wanted a bokken to do my Kaoru impression, but that tent was closed by the time the Rouge Blades show finished. It ran over a half hour past the close of the faire. I missed a lot of stuff I wanted to look at, but the show was pretty fun.

And I got a bit too much sun I think, despite wearing a visor and sunscreen. I was specifically told by docs to not get any sun on my healing new skin, so I was bad. I should have snapped some shots of me today, with the prednisone taking all the inflammation out of my face, I look like a teenager! All the tiny lines in my face are practically gone, after my er, sort of chemical peel. The sun keeps lightening my hair, it looks dark but in bright sun it gets this peachy gold color. It's kinda weird, but cool. It's like my hair is trying to turn my sister's strawberry blonde.

I stay out of the sun usually. I think that and not tanning is why people my own age think I'm much younger than them. (Havbe to keep my nice goth look :P) The plastic surgeon at the skin specialist I've been going to complemented me on my lack of brown spots and sun damage. "It's rare I get to see such nice white skin." Ooookay. LOL

Really, skin cancer runs in the fair haired members of my family, and I already had one tumor (though that could have been caused by constant standing on hard surfaces deforming my blood vessels--what a shock, my horrid job is to blame). So I play it safe with the sun. It's unpopular to not be tanned now, but I think it's already paying off for me.

Oh, tomorrow is supposed to much more humid BLAHHHHHH NOOOO, and hot, but they are now saying temps only in the 90s, instead of "low 100s". So I should be, er....happy? Still no air conditioning. It can snow tomorrow, i will not complain at all.

I'm trying to get Mom to go swimming with me Monday. Neither of us like to go out in public in bathing suits, but I think it would be great fun and cooling, and we can probably get the beach to ourselves if we go to the lake by the farm on a Monday. Plus swimming will be good exercise for Mom's heart. And I want to go. the water is supposed to be in the 80s now--that's warm! Last time I went swimming, it was in Lake Huron, and the water was 34 degrees. You got used to it, eventually.

Anyone else see the new My Little Pony show? I got sucked into it by the bronies--the unusually large adult male fanbase. The show makes references to Charlie's Angels, David Bowie, Goatse, internet memes. Heck, in one scene were all these hillbilly ponies come out of the woodwork, two characters start making Deliverance jokes! It's awesome!

Most of the girl characters are spunky and into cool things. Most shows think girls should just be into shopping and looking sexy, but not this one. Why didn't they have this when I was little?! I like Applejack and Rainbow Dash a lot. I liked all these little things about the show. Applejack's dog and farm animals all have country music names. When they meet a herd of dairy cows, they have Wisconsin accents, dontcha know. Oh, and Doctor Whooves--he's a background pony that looks like a certain Time Lord. I love spotting him and seeing what he's doing.

Some brony made a little program that makes animated, interactive ponies run around on your desktop. I have been having fun with that. You can make them sleep, or alter where they can run on your screen so they don't make you die in video games. Or you can take control and make one run around with your keyboard.

And kitty insists on sitting on my keyboard, and I'm tired of fighting her. As Applejack would say, "Have a great night, y'all!"
