let it snow

So we got 5.5 inches of snow today. The sweet new bag boy asked me if I had an ice scraper when we were walking out to our cars, and offered to let me use his if I needed one. Dawwww.... I gotta ask if he has an older brother sometime.

My closer did a no call/no show, so unless he has a really good story, he is fired. So that is four cashiers in two weeks to leave. I was managing 14 people, now only 10.

It's still snowing, and it is super cold in here. Well, 25, but it was sixty last week, so 25 with strong winds is pretty harsh. The water hydrant at the farm keeps freezing, so twice a day Mom has to heat several pans of water on the stove, and carry them out to the barn to thaw the darn thing out, hopefully without spilling boiling water on herself. I've had to do that, and gotten boiling water sloshed down my leg a few times. It is not a good sensation! It is so nice to have the big pasture come all the way to the barn now. It saves us a lot of walking, but it is very pretty over where we used to feed them. I miss the views.

I did not want, in any way, to do laundry tonight, but necessity says otherwise, so I am forced to trudge through the ice and snow, and up and down icy unsalted staircases, with downward slanting steps and no railings. I am wearing my new spiffy black boots with the white fur at the top. They are way more fashionable than any boots I've had, well, ever. They are so new they squeak. I need better boot socks, the ones I have are way too thin, and my ankles will be scraped to bits if I have to wear these boots any length of time.

My stomach is still really upset from the stomach flu, but I went to Mac's after work (foolishly perhaps) because I had a strong need for some hot chocolate. They actually tried to turn on the furnace at work *LE GASP* but it didn't work, so they turned it off again. Right before we locked the doors I saw that idiot HotWheels had left the bucket of salt and the shovel outside in the snow, so I had to run out without a coat and get them. The walks needed work, but I wasn't doing them in a t-shirt.

I have to wait for the weekend to go shoe shopping, and hopefully I'll be able to find something I can afford that will hold my new orthotic insoles, and hopefully, FINALLY get some foot pain relief. The doc said they might make my feet WORSE for a while, holy crap. They are so sore now I cannot pumice my feet, they are too tender, but somehow I have to walk on them and stand all day at work. My old shoes are making things worse I know.

And Mom had a screaming bitch fight when she finally paid attention and learned that I had to buy new shoes. I've only told her twenty times.... I WANT new shoes, these were super expensive sure, but I got them in the spring, and I've nearly worn through the toes and they hurt my feet bad. That's how much I walk on my feet--I can wear holes in leather shoes in half a year. Heck, the socks I got for Easter are pretty shot as well.

You know that song about seeing Mommy kissing Santa Claus? Mom never used to let me listen to it, cause it "was about infidelity". Then I started singing it as "I saw Daddy kissing Santa Claus..." which used to get me hit. I still like it better that way. I keep imagining child Claudia peeking in on Lestat-Santa trying to lay one on Louis under some mistletoe. This must be ART! Wish I had time to draw it....
