The snow on the SUV's hood in the parking lot is just shy of the roof. That's how much snow we've had that's stayed there despite the fierce winds. And they are fierce, we were watching the snow go perfectly parallel to the ground all day today. I wore my winter coat all day again. It was cold up front, and they had the door open in the back, so it wasn't any warmer back there. It was so cold the hand sanitizer I use wouldn't evaporate, which made it pretty much useless.
So I got up early, actually I kept waking up thinking I was late all morning so who knows how much sleep I actually got. There is snow on the car deep as my forearm, with a thick layer of ice underneath. The snow drifted around my car comes to the base of my knee. I barely got the door open with all the ice. So there is snow all over me by the time the windows are clear enough to leave...and I drive down the almost completely deserted road, following this intrepid red car (almost every other car I saw today was an SUV), and the road kept whiting out worse than a foggy night from the combination of blowing snow and sunlight, but I still get to work with time to spare.
So then life has to kick me in the ass. I slam the door shut. It bounces back. I fight with it, but it refuses to shut and won't lock either.
I go inside, and Jabba gave me some WD-40 cause I can't find mine. I flag down the PHB as he goes by, and he stands by and has no idea what to do. He sends the deli girl out with lock de-icer later--which is nice, cause mine wouldn't work.
So eventually I have to leave it, hoping no one steals my car or vandalizes it. Door still open....and lost money standing outside fighting with it. I was freezing from being in thin dress slacks, which had frozen stiff by then, and fighting with the metal latch in a frickin' blizzard with bare fingers.
On my lunch I went out and ran the damn car the entire time. More money down the hole. It took almost 20 minutes, but the latch finally worked.
Of course it was frozen by the time I left again. Duoc volunteered me to take home the old Curmudgeon who was walking. So again the car door won't shut. He's baffled. I'd warned him, but he's getting antsy cause it's almost time for Gray's Anatomy. Good lord...
So I try to slam the door a couple more times, and somehow rip the hell out of the nail on my middle finger, taking about half of it off. So now I'm bleeding and my nail is half off, and it's 'hurry up, I'm missing my soap'. Just then the damn latch shut. So I took him home, confused by directions consisting only of "I live behind Chung's House of Pain". Say what?
Now I'm home, really friggin' cold, my finger is throbbing, my face hurts from the wind, and I have laundry to do that requires going outside to the machines. That's why I didn't do it yesterday, and I don't want to go back out there at all.
