Orientation

Well, orientation today went incredibly well. I was very nervous at first, and then I saw Allison so I wasn't so alone. When we got there I was just talking to my parents about my future and what my dreams were, and they seemed pretty impressed. The parents went off and they had their own session for the entire day, as did the students. We eventually got broken up into what college we were enrolled in-- mine was BSOS (college of behavioral and social sciences). We introduced ourselves and then took a math placement exam. Afterwards, we set up our e-mail accounts. This was the only aspect of the program that I didn't feel completely lost again. I was the only one in my group who had set up their e-mail already (YAY for facebook!). We got lunch and then went and saw a presentation that a graduate student gave. Afterwards, we went in groups of 3 to talk to our advisor and get our classes set up.

I didn't get all the ones that I wanted, but I did get second/third choices. At least, all except for one. A lot of the classes were closed, so I got stuck with one completely random one. I'm on the waiting list for a math class (I don't really need to take it.. I tested higher.. but it's recommended again for my major).

So... I'm taking Psychology 101, Astronomy (I wanted something different), Women's Studies of Culture blah blah (something like that... another second choice), Univ 101 (which is kind of like an introduction to the university.. resource policies and the like), and.. get this...

The Historical and Philosophical Perspective of Education

um, yea. Okay. Random, but that was my only choice (not really.. but the other classes were learning about Judaism and intermediate Italian and such-- things that did not pertain to me).

Well, I'm pretty excited now, and I'm completely in college mode. There's so much more freedom to getting to choose the classes you want, and you can expand your breadth which is really exciting :-D.

Tomorrow is going to suck though, just because it's mostly dedicated to living on campus, and I'm going to be a commuter. But I do, on the other hand, get my student ID card and... that's about it. Oh well. Maybe I'll make new friends :).
