"I still can't believe you talked the king into letting you captain the ship, let alone lead any troops once we land."

Tony turned to grin at Kate, green eyes sparkling with mischief. "Aw, come on, Kate. Exploring new places, meeting new people, defending the empire. That's what I was born for. Just because the king is my father doesn't mean I have to stay home, all safe and sound." He smirked. "That's what big brother is for."

Kate reached up to smack him on the back of the head, though she was fighting off a smile. "And yet you still get a royal bodyguard to keep you safe and sound, or at least as safe and sound as you ever are."

"And a fine job of it you're doing, if I may say so, Kate." He was still smiling, but his eyes were serious as they met hers. "I know I don't say it, and it's probably not technically proper for me to say it now, and I'll deny it with my last breath if you ever mention it again, but you're my best friend, Kate. So try not to get killed saving my sorry ass, okay?"

She just smiled. "Don't worry, Tony. And I won't say that you're my best friend, either. Okay?"

He sighed in contentment, throwing an arm around Kate's shoulders and turning them both to face the wind. "Sounds perfect, Kate. We should be making landfall soon, or so McGee tells me, and then the real adventure starts. You and me...and of course the company of men that dear old Dad let me borrow, exploring places that none of our people have ever seen before. That's what living is all about."

Kate blinked, tilting her head to look up at him. "I think that is one of the most honest things I've ever heard you say, Tony. How anyone could think that you would want to actually sit and rule over anything is beyond me."

He shrugged, completely unconcerned. "If I absolutely had to, I probably could. But there's something out here somewhere that I need to find. No idea what it is, but it's making me restless. Always has. I think once I find it, I could settle down. I just need to find it first."

"Maybe we'll find it out here, Tony. Though it might be easier if you knew what it was."

Tony just shrugged again. "I'll know it when I see it. And I think you're right; I'll find it out here somewhere. Soon. I can almost taste it."
