Why CSU Sucks Part 2: Set Forth

Mar 27, 2006 13:15

Ah I forgot one last part of waiting in line. I think everyone got like 4 fricking free t-shirts, stickers, and frisbees. (And Why Frisbees? You won’t let people bring in their own water bottles because you fear that they will throw them at people…but then you give them Frisbees so that way they can throw something farther and with more targeting capabilities. Ah but yes, they are from CSU so that shouldn’t be surprising.) And a ton of glow stick necklaces and bracelets etc.

When I got to the floor everyone else was there. We were way more to the right than we usually are, and that is because the CSU students that worked the event had staked claim over the whole front center row. Nice of them huh? Unfortunately we were positioned right in front of the huge right speaker. Also unfortunate was the fact that every speaker thought they needed to pump the crowd up more by yelling into the microphone. We endured over 2 hours of pointless marketing from the various radio stations there. They threw out more t-shirts and frisbees to the crowd just in case they didn’t have enough free junk to throw around at people. It was funny. All the guards had also worked at the Killer’s Next Fest concert. I don’t know what security company they work for but they are awesome!

Finally Set Forth takes the stage. I think this is the 3rd time we had seen them open for The Fray. The first time they didn’t even have a name and had been practicing together for under a week. They are a local band from Greeley and are okay. Their original stuff is good…but their covers. We’ll just say that Guard D314 befriended our little group (mostly Andrew) because he said he felt the same way about Set Forth’s last song as we looked while listening to it. The girls behind us were rabid Set Forth fans and were very annoying.

After Set Forth’s set ended and the techies Steve and Brian set up everything for The Fray’s set the radio stations came out and talked a bit. Then some former CSU student/football player came to talk about the sponsors and why this event was so special. He gave a very quick story about Sam Spady (and a girl passed out during this in the front row. EMTs had to come try to revive her.) But after that talked for an hour about how in 1997 he was harassed because he was born in Iran. The stories were very random and didn’t have anything to do with any of the associations sponsoring the event. And the annoying rabid Set Forth fans behind us were so bitchy. Yelling “Shut the F--- Up! Bring out the Fray! We know all this already. Shut Up! Go Away…” etc for the whole hour he talked. I would have just found this guy a bit boring and random. But with the girls behind us I so wanted to ask them to shut up themselves, that yelling wouldn’t bring out The Fray any sooner but I knew that would just provoke them into doing something stupid and mean to us so I just kept my cool.
