Why CSU Sucks Part 1: Pree Show

Mar 27, 2006 12:37

I had been looking forward to The Fray concert at CSU on Sunday. It was to be the only fun and enjoyable thing I was going to do all Spring Break. But instead it was horrible. I can honestly say that was the worst concert I have ever been to. But don’t get me wrong. I love The Fray, and I’m sure their set was great, I just didn’t get to experience it that way. It is strange because it was the first concert I have ever been to where I couldn’t see the band, or hear them properly…all while being in the front row.

I should do a bit of background. My parents are in Mexico. I’m in Longmont, driving my sister to school. My teenage sister with a horrible attitude. This concert, and spending time with my dog is what I had to look forward to all Spring Break week.

So Sunday was pretty typical. Church and lunch. My parents called from Mexico right as Heather and her boyfriend (Andrew) came to the door. I let them in and totally forgot that Holly (my dog) hates guys. So I didn’t hear what my parents said and rushed out the door. We got about a block away when I realized I’d left my cell phone. So we drove back and I grabbed it. (Little did I know that I had forgot the HTSAL Single insert that I wanted to get signed. But it wasn’t a catastrophy because the guys didn’t do a signing. Which is becoming more the norm, sadly.)

The drive up was interesting. I don’t think I have sat at the back of Heather’s car in…well years. I just usually am the first one picked up and so I sit shotgun. Second, I realized that people in the back can’t hear the conversation in the front. So I had to sit the whole time leaning forward, or sit back and pretend I understood and make the general “Oh yeah….um hum…” sort of sounds. Next, Andrew was a very interesting character. I haven’t met a person with such strong and entrenched beliefs towards certain bands (read Music Snob. But in a funny way.) He thought we were a bit nuts because he didn’t understand how we could see the same band multiple times (this was #14 for us.) I agree a bit with him. We are weird. But how do we stop?

He also had never been to a show more that 15 minutes before it started. We got there around 2:30 and the doors opened at 6. I was stupid and was wearing a tank top with a business suit jacket. It was fricking cold. Heather was kind enough to bring me a blanket and I grabbed a free t-shirt from 99.9 The Point (a radio station in Ft. Collins.) We were probably the 20th person in line. By the time the doors opened. A mass of people was in place of the orderly line and so we were like the 50th person in. Well, now to get back to the fun hours spent waiting in line. A guy offered me and Andrew a Klondike bar. No one wanted it so he just sort of put it on the sidewalk. (I actually said “Are you serious? It’s to dang cold!”) It didn’t ever melt. That is how cold it was. We were subjected to music by 96.1 KISS….Just horrible. We ordered a pizza and had it delivered to us in line. That was the best part of the night. I was starving and I think I ate like a whole pizza. It was so warm…ah bliss. Sally joined us later (Sally is Heather’s neighbor, and my ex-co-worker from the Summer Day Camp. Neither of us got a raise so we aren’t going back.) We saw mamasocks and talked with her for a few minuets. And then the doors opened. The were only going to let a certain number of people on the floor. (Oh yeah…the concert was at Moby Arena. Which is a basketball stadium. I don’t like these type of concerts as they just aren’t conducive of having all the fans feel close to the band as it is in smaller venues.)
