So I saw Coraline tonight. I've been meaning to see it for like a week, and today I finally just got Holly and DJ to come with me and get it over with. It's 3D, which is usually a bad thing for me since I hate them and I hate wearing the 3D glasses over my normal ones.

Overall it was a little disappointing. I mean, it's a perfectly good family movie but the whole time I was comparing it to the book and when I do that I just can't fully enjoy a movie for what it is. Except I Am Legend, I got into that pretty easily.

They added some random character, some little boy named Wybie whose grandma owns the house everyone was renting from. His name stands for "why born", which is a fucking depressing thing for a kids movie. The house was all wrong too, I just felt like it should be in a city.

The other people in the house were awesome though. Ms Spink & Ms Forcible were hilarious, they had all these old movie posters from shows they did up all over their house and I just laughed every time they showed one. The only two I remember were called "Julius Sees Her" and "King Leer", so peep shows? Fucking lol'd! In the other show performance they did this thing about sirens and sailors, and Ms Forcible was naked except for little jewels designs covering all her bits. DJ almost died laughing, it was awesome. The crazy rat guy upstairs was this little drunk Russian man, exactly how I pictured him except for his crazy long arms & legs.

Coraline herself I didn't like, she seemed too... bratty almost? And the movie left out all my favorite bits of her alone in the house after the other mother takes her real parents, like her calling the police for help but they just laugh her off and her going to the grocery store for food because she's all alone and can't make herself dinner. I thought that was an awesome part of the book, but I guess it would have been too depressing for the movie or something? And the house is in the middle of nowhere, so that doesn't help things.

The parts that really made use of the 3D part were usually pretty good, but I thought it could of been used more. I mean, if you're gonna charge an extra 3 dollars for the running and make us wear those stupid glasses you should use it for more than making the scene look 'deep' and more for 'shit jumping out of the screen'.

I'm also pretty disappointed that the scene with Coraline finding her other father in the basement was replaced by him chasing her around the garden. The first marble is also found in the garden instead of in her toy box, which bothered me a little bit because the whole garden part seemed a little stupid.

And they left out the part when she comes back and everyone calls her Coraline instead or Caroline! I loved that little detail!

Overall it was a pretty good movie, but some parts were just retarded. If I went on a lot of drugs it would have freaked the shit out of me though, so I might have to do that.

coraline, sad, friends, movies, books, epic fail
