So I'm not sure how many of you know that with all the rain we've been having, the rivers all around Iowa are flooding like mad.
Pratically all of downtown Cedar Rapids is under water. I just heard on the news that officals estimate that 100 blocks of downtown CR are underwater. All of the downtown CR exits are closed and it's still rising. 3900 homes are underwater and there is water everywhere. The only way to get across the River now is Interstate 380. People are being rescued from their homes - one man says that it's at least 15 feet deep on Diagonal Drive which is right underneath 380.
And it's raining today too.
Here's some pictures from a local news channel:

Edit: They just said they're going to close 380 between county home road and highway 30 - which is essentially the entire city. So we probably won't be going over the river today.
Edit 2: 380 has been opened to one lane only for through traffic. Probably still won't be going out seeing as it's still pouring rain and the river is still rising.
They've been showing air footage of how much flooding has been going on in this city, it's just like...staggering I mean. The factories are underwater, so many bridges are under water and I'm pretty much trapped on the Northeast side of town. If they put these videos on their website I'll be sure to link you to it so you can just see how bad this really is. They also keep showing the Czech Museum underwater, and that just really hurts to see - I really hope that they were able to save most of the items in the museum when the evacuation order was announced a day or two ago.
The Marriott where AnimeIowa will be held is still dry so far save for the lower back pattio, but it's got 6 feet before it starts flooding their ground floor, so it's a pretty tenuous time right now. I REALLY hope they start taking emergency measures, or we might not have a hotel and therefore not a convention this year.
No worries for me, though, the River would have to come up a good 100-200 feet before my house is underwater.
