Had something of a fit today and
made & felted a bag. If you want to make one,
you can view the pattern on Ravelry or
get it here.
Yarn: Worsted weight wool or wool blend - not superwash! I used Karabella Aurora 8. You will need about 90-100 yards.
Based on
Natasha Sill's Credit Card Holder, originally published by
Gritty Knits.
I needed a small, cross-body bag that I could carry just the necessities in, for going out dancing or to a concert. Credit Card Holder had the look I wanted, but was too small & didn't have a strap, so I created this pattern.
This bag will hold an iPhone (or similarly sized phone), credit card, ID, lip balm, and a car key w. fob.
Starting dimensions of my pouch:
4" pocket, 8.5" wide
Finished dimensions of my pouch:
3" pocket, 8" wide
This project took me 1 day to complete.
My gauge in this yarn with these needles:
18 st = 4"
24 rows = 4"
I am a very tight knitter; this is close to the ball band gauge for this yarn. If you are a loose knitter, you might want to cast on fewer stitches -- just pick an odd number.
1. CO 35 st
2. Rows 1-4: k
3. Work in stockinette st until work measures
7" (about 45 rows), ending with a knit row.
4. (Begin to work flap) Row 1: k4, p27, k4
5. Row 2: k
6. Repeat these 2 rows 3 more times
7. k4, p27, k4
8. (Begin decreases) k4, k2tog, k to last 6 st, sl1, k1, psso, k4
9. Repeat these two rows 4 times (27 st. on needles)
10. Buttonhole row 1: k4, p8, BO3, p8, k4
11. Buttonhole row 2: k4, k2tog, k6, CO1, k6, sl1, k1, psso, k4
12. k4, k2tog, k to last 6 st, sl1, k1, psso, k4
13. Repeat last row 3 more times
14. k one row. BO all st.
15. With WS (purl side) facing, fold fabric so that the section below the flap forms the pouch. Seam sides (you can use a different yarn for this, because it's on the inside -- just needs to be a yarn that will felt). Turn pouch right side out.
15. At top of pouch, along garter st. starting rows, pick up & knit 3 st. Begin working i-cord. (You may want to stitch down the tail where you joined the yarn along the inside seam.)
16. When i-cord is the length you like (on me this was about 60"), join to other side of bag.
17. Felt to size.
18. Sew on button below buttonhole.
