- If you have any interest in the Beatles whatsoever, I really can not over-recommend
Pseu Braun and Gaylord Fields' recent special on WFMU, which highlights some of the more unfortunate solo Beatles' filler tracks. They also provide some of the most astute and interesting analysis of the Beatles as people and exactly what went wrong with their solo careers. It should not be missed.
- I was listening my college's radio station the other day, when I heard a rather ridiculously Scandinavian symphonic metal song. Within moments, realized that this was not just any Scandinavian symphonic metal song, but a NIGHTWISH song. It really made those few minutes in time (during which I was getting lost in the NJ metro area, as is my wont) truly amazing.
I don't know if you've ever heard Nightwish, but you really should. They are great, and by great, I mean they sound like Celtic Women would sound if they were a metal band and also Finnish. They are the perfect soundtrack for all your needs, be they driving or killing mythical creatures in God Of War.
- In my apartment I get a fascinating TV station called mtvU, which is apparently only for and by college students. It shows music videos 24/7, and so I can once again waste hours of my time watching music videos for bands I hate and/or resent, just like in my misspent youth.
The best part is a show call the Dean's List, where the nation's college students are given a chance to host their own person top ten videos. This week featured a pair of idiots (who are an alleged "rap duo"), one half of which I am pretty sure was actually
Nathan Barely. The only flaw in my theory is that Nathan Barley probably would have chosen videos a little more up-to-date then Daft Punk's "Around the World" and Radiohead's "Karma Police."
