Humanity's fight against Mother Nature is a scrappy fight, and in the end a losing fight, but the Killdeers shall live another day. Though it might be time to move to higher ground. The tides are getting dangerously high lately. The key to survival is the ability to adapt. That is, as long as the air is breathable.
You can find the most interesting things walking along the beach. Sometimes scary things. Human feet show up more often than you'd thing. It could be a sicko cutting people's feet off and throwing them into the ocean, or it could just be that sneakers float. A person dies at sea, eventually the body rots, and the shoes float up with the foot still in them, or what's left of the foot. One thing I don't see on the beaches anymore is hoboes. There are more hoboes than ever in the city, but you don't find them at the beaches burning fires in barrels and cooking fish. I'd find them when I was a kid. They'd ask, "Hey kid? Does your mom know you're here?"
Obviously not.
