I finally finished the piece I started way back in November:
"Switch"
Have you ever seen a light burn out?
Electricity zapped from the eyes of a once radiant being?
If not, then examine me closely
Read into me; your textbook for today
Suspended mid-air as midnight snakes closer
Surrounded by the sun's new inability to breathe
Everything's altered
Just as the night air blankets the divinity of waves and mountains
Everything which creates me has been surrendered to foreign expression
But just because it lies beyond your eyes doesn't mean beauty fails
A powerhouse DOES exist, beneath the surface, worth watching, worth capturing, worth remembering
I have grown into an auburn tornado
Untamed and waiting to uproot
To change the face of familiar terrain
Because how can you padlock a storm? Or the collision of ten?
I AM those crashing swells and towering cliffs
Lost in the moon's thin spotlight, but shining on you here
Reflecting recoveries on a compass pointing south
The match crucial to rekindling passionate pages
Overwritten beauty worth rescuing from the shelves
The past is placed within my fingertips
Rolled into a capsule and swallowed down with water
Time-released into my bloodstream as a vaccine for the future
Discovery courses through my veins
Placing me in my own shoes under fresh light
The current finds fuel from new wells
To pen lyrics upon blue flames crackling
Pulling love from intrigue
Scaling fences on whispers
Finding faith behind pain
Did you truly believe I'd never re-illuminate?
Me neither.
