Brendon woke up to a world of pain and the taste of his own blood in his mouth. He grimaced and lifted his head up. He immediately regretted it as a bright light shined in his face. It made him want to hiss and turn. He went to move his hands and found they were bounded by chains to a chair. A girl with brown hair sat across from him. He looked at her, “To add with the unfair staking, did one of you hit me in the face?”

"Well...kicked, but yeah." Faith grinned.

"Kicked." He repeated, "You humans are so brutal."

The grin turned to a look of anger. She got to her feet and walked over to him, "Excuse me?! You are one to talk! You and your scum burned down my home!"

"Oh, why must you all blame each vampire for things they didn't do?" He said, annoyed, "All I was doing was looking for Peter Lewis Kingston Wentz the Third so we could actually leave."

"Pete hates you all." She replied instead, putting a hand on her hip.

"Oh, really?" Brendon said sarcastically, "I thought he was just running away because he adored us all so much."

Her eyes narrowed, "Are you really in a position to be an asshole?"

"Do you really want me to be anything else?"

She looked at him with a glare that reflected her irritation. She punched him square in the cheek. "Guys!" Faith called out next, "The vampire is awake!"

Brendon coughed and spat more blood out. Pete, Patrick, Greta, and Thomas appeared in the doorway.

Faith looked at Pete, "He says that when he put Sierra under his spell, he was coming to see you."

Pete cast a glance at the other vampire, "Where is William?" He snarled.

"More or less looking for you." Brendon replied. He looked at the others "You know that the longer I'm here, the more danger you're all in, right?"

Faith sat back down and Greta joined her. "It's close to dawn already. We're not exactly worried... and they can't burn us out again because fire will kill you as well." Faith said simply.

He scoffed, "Like they care. Butch has been wanting to kill me since the moment we met."

"Doesn't Lord Beckett care?" Greta asked, she noticed everyone's confused expressions and shrugged, "I did my homework on them."

Brendon nearly snickered, "Yeah, well Lord Beckett has a flair for drama. Anything to get the point of never crossing a vampire out there." He shrugged, "They could probably just get me out really fast anyway."

"Mmm...except for my Priest, Father John, has already put crosses and garlic at every entrance. He and Sierra are coating the doors and windows in holy water. The only reason why he hasn't deemed this place Holy yet is because you are in here." Faith explained in a dull tone as she looked at her chipped nail polish.

He gave her a look, "Does she have to be in here?"

"Yeah, she does." Faith snapped before one of the guys could reply.

The guys and Greta were watching the exchange with curious looks. Brendon sighed, "This doesn't have anything to do with you."

"Oh, believe me, it does." Faith replied, "I got involved when I had to rescue my Priest from his room because our church was on fire." She got to her feet, "I may not believe... but that Priest is the only father I've ever known because when I was seven years old, your scum killed my parents in front of me and left me alone and scared. So yes, it involves me."

Brendon studied her for a while before leaning back in his seat, "You understand near to nothing. Ruled by pain from your childhood you take it on the first vampire you get your hands on. Right?"

"Mmm... no. I'm taking this out on you, because it was you and your friends who burned the church down. So, excuse me if I'm just a little bit ticked off at you."

"I didn't touch your church, if you must know, I was against it the entire time." He said very calmly.

"Why do you think we'd believe you?"

"Why would I want to?"

"Because it's what Vampires do. Destroy things in the hopes of killing humans and getting supper."

Brendon's whole body tensed up against the bondage, "You..." he shut his mouth, "I'm not explaining anything else. You figure it out on your own."

Faith rolled her eyes at him, "You know what... I think I will go and eat something with garlic in it... I heard just having garlic breath makes Vampires skin burn." She turned and walked out of the room.

Brendon rolled his eyes. Each pupil settled on Pete, "You sure know how to pick 'em."

"You might want to get this over with and tell us what you wanted with Pete." Greta spoke up, looking at Brendon, "Dawn is in about forty five minutes. We have to get Pete... and you underground."

"Oh, spare me." He shook his head, "All I wanted with Pete is to hand him over to William so we could leave."

Greta raised an eyebrow and looked to Pete and Patrick.

Pete looked down at Brendon, "What does William want with me?"

Brendon shrugged, "I don't know. Talk maybe."

"Somehow, I doubt that's all he wants." Thomas said.

"He doesn't want to kill him." Brendon said.

Thomas shrugged and looked to Pete.

Pete looked thoughtful, "He's right. I may want to kill him, but he won't kill me."

Faith went to the kitchen and found Sierra there. "Doors coated in holy water?" She asked.

Sierra nodded, "Yep... Father John said he was going to pray and then get some sleep."

Faith gave Sierra a small smile. She grabbed some garlic off of a counter and began to cut it up, "I need some bread and butter for this... make garlic bread. You want some?"

Sierra nodded, "Sure." Faith made the bread. The girls ate in silence.

A part of Faith was wondering if she was just taking out her anger for her parents' deaths on the nearest Vampire she could find but the other part of her insisted that it wasn't because of that.

Patrick appeared a little later, "We're putting them underground now. You guys should get some sleep.”

Faith looked around, "Where can I crash?"

"We got some cots and sleeping bags for you guys. We also have a couch if you want to see how many you can fit there."

"Nah I'm good on a cot or something." She smiled, "Thanks... I really appreciate this."

"Sure, it's no problem."

Faith smiled, "Still... thanks." She went over to where the cots were set up and sat down, she pulled her hair down, crossed herself out of pure habit, and laid down on the bed. She was asleep in minutes.

Brendon woke up, surprisingly before any of the others. He hadn't been chained, and with just a bit of a push he got the tight doors of the basement open. He looked around carefully for any traps. He couldn't exit because the doors were all blessedly sealed. So, the vampire decided to go wash up and rummage through the others things.

Brendon came over to the sleeping bunch in one of Thomas' shirts and Pete's jeans, which he was pretty sure were one of the girl's, feeling weird and under-dressed. He saw Faith and smiled. He bent over just a little so his wet hair dripped on her.

Faith turned slightly, feeling the water drip on her face. She made a noise in her sleep and opened an eye. When she saw Brendon, she punched him hard in the jaw and jumped to her feet.

Brendon only moved an inch or so and looked back at her. "Good morning to you, too."

"What are you doing?" She asked in a hushed whisper so they wouldn't wake the others, "Why were you leaning over me? Thought you were going to try and drain me?"

He shrugged, "Not really. You might be diseased. I just had to do something for entertainment."

"Yeah, totally diseased." She said, sarcasm heavily lacing her voice.

"Unlike you, I don't pretend to know peoples' lives or habits."

"Yeah, whatever." Faith rolled her eyes.

He went over to the light switch, "I think it's time to wake the others, don't you?"

"Fine."

He flipped the switch, hoping, if anything, somebody would freak out and stake him.

Greta and Sierra were the next to wake up. They were alarmed to see Brendon standing there but didn't freak out. Instead, they slowly walked towards Faith.

Most of the boys continued to sleep peacefully, snoring. Pete appeared and threw Brendon a bottle filled with an orange-red liquid in it.

Brendon wrinkled his nose as he caught it, "This isn't that horrible stuff you drink, is it?"

Pete shrugged, "It's this or trying to fight the hunger."

Brendon looked at the bottle as if it were evil itself.

Pete gave a friendly kick to his friends as a wake-up call.

Thomas was awake next. He eyed Brendon and got up. "Hey, do you guys have something that we can eat in here?" He asked, going towards the kitchen as Patrick began to wake up on his own.

Patrick looked at Brendon, his eyes still weary with sleep, "Okay, how come he's out?"

"You know, that's a good question." Greta said, looking at Brendon with a curious look.

Pete looked at all of them, "Brendon's pretty strong, he could have broke out of those chains at any moment and killed us all. He even has mind control mastered. But he didn't."

"Oh, isn't that comforting to know." Faith muttered as she walked to the kitchen.

Patrick just shook his head. He knew to trust Pete, though.

"Are those my jeans?" Sierra asked noticing Brendon's clothes.

The vampire looked down, "Yeah, probably."

"Ew..." Faith said, noticing that they were indeed Sierra's.

She turned away again as Thomas began to make something they could all eat. Well, for the breathing ones, at least.

Brendon cast a glance at the other girl, "Well, someone ruined them and there was no way I was walking around in wrecked clothes." He tongue nearly twisted when he realized how normal he was talking. He was just used to being prim and proper with the other vampires that he nearly forgot how to speak in regular terms.

Faith just rolled her eyes again. Greta sat down at the counter, "Something smells good." She commented.

"I agree." Sierra chimed.

"Oh, man, me three. I haven't eaten anything for like two days." Andy said sitting up between yawns.

Brendon flopped down on the couch with his supplemental drink, still contemplating if he should drink it or not.

Joe joined the group at the table.

Brendon didn't think he could miss much, but he was missing his place with the other vampires. He was lost after being thrown back into the human world he had been sheltered from. He watched the hunters gather and live like one big family, and wondered how exactly each of them ended up here.

Faith began to eat but kept casting glances to Brendon. She didn't trust him and didn't like the fact that he was just sitting around without any restraints. When she was finished, she looked at the others. They were her friends but she still felt left out. Slowly, she backed out of the room and went to a room that Patrick had shown her the night before. She looked around and sat down for a moment. Then, she got on her back and began to work out, hoping the routine would clear her mind.

Faith almost finished his physical exertion when he noticed Brendon sitting outside of the doorway, criss-crossed. There were very few places he could go. It turns out the priest had blessed most of the rooms. He was mostly limited to the hallways. "So I'm guessing that you're not exactly big buddies with the others."

She stared at him, "That's not true."

"You're sitting in a room away from the others all by yourself." He pointed out.

"I'm working out." She pointed out.

"Without telling anyone or anything. It can also be a sign that you're releasing suppressed anger, guilt, or sadness."

"Well, maybe I am..." She muttered.

"Right, self-isolating."

"Why are you even trying to understand me?" Faith asked, sitting up.

"You tried to kill me." He stated, looking up at her.

"I thought you were going to do something to my friend."

"So, you would kill for that friend of yours, but you won't socialize with them normally."

She rolled her eyes, "We need all of the humans we can get, especially those who are willing to fight."

"Oh, that makes sense. You save your kind to kill mine."

Faith shrugged, "Is that wrong?"

"Not to you." He observed.

"Yeah well... if it means keeping people alive..."

He stood up, "You forget we were people once."

"You aren't now." She replied simply.

"I don't forget, though."

Faith shrugged, "What do you want from me?"

“I want to go home." He hissed.

"Well wouldn't we all like that... but oh... I can't."

"I can make you life hell without even trying."

"I've been living in hell for a long time. Nothing new there." She said quietly,

"Oh trust me, I'm a whole new circle."

Faith rolled her eyes, "I'll keep that in mind."

"May I ask you a question?"

"I guess you can."

"For someone with your namesake... you don't have much of it. How come?"

She shrugged, "It just seemed stupid... I used to believe... when I was little... and I tried to believe for the sake of Father John when he took me in... finally, I just started to pretend. I refuse to believe that if this God of theirs was so wonderful and merciful, he wouldn't of made me watch my parents be brutally murdered."

He understood much more now, "Well, I can relate more then you'd like."

"Oh, really?" She asked, disbelief evident in her voice.

"Yup." He nodded.

She looked at him for a moment, curious but wondering if she'd dare betray herself, "Well... what's your story then?"

"Well, I was raised Mormon for one." He told her, "Where it was taboo to drink a soda."

Faith raised an eyebrow, "Wow."

"Yeah. By the time I was eighteen I was well kicked out by the people who were supposed to love me."

"That sucks." She muttered, looking down.

"I really hope that wasn't an attempt at a pun."

Faith gave a small smile, "No."

Brendon opened his mouth to speak but Pete appeared in the hallway, "Faith, Brendon, come on. We're going out."

"Where are we going?" Faith asked, raising an eyebrow.

"We have to go mix scents and traces of us throughout the streets because they can track him all the way back here."

"Oh, fun." Faith said deadpan.

Patrick, Joe, and Andy joined Pete with chains in their hands.

Brendon's shoulders slumped, "Oh, come on."

"It's a good idea." Faith said, getting to her feet.

"You all suck, and not in the good ways."

"And you thought I was making bad puns."

Outside, Brendon was in chains with the other hunters guarding him carefully. He looked at their car, "There's no way we're fitting in that comfortably."

"Well we have to make it work somehow." Greta said, looking to Patrick for ideas.

"We could stick Brendon in the trunk," Patrick suggested. Pete shook his head, "We can fit four in the back and someone is sitting on someone's lap."

Sierra raised an eyebrow, "And who would that be?"

"I'm sure you can figure it out." Pete said getting into the passenger's seat.

Sierra frowned at him before sliding into the back seat. Thomas got in beside her.

Blake sat next to Thomas, and Patrick went to the driver's seat. Brendon looked at Greta, "It's you or me."

Greta raised an eyebrow and got in the car. Faith looked at Brendon with a frown.

Brendon sighed, "I'm liking the trunk idea."

"Oh no... you could get out of the trunk." Sierra pointed out.

"That's why I like it." He commented as he struggled to get in, "Pete! I'm going to re-kill you."

Faith grimaced as she got in the car and on his lap, "I think I'll help him." She commented.

Brendon lifted up his bound wrists and put them around Faith's waist, "Don't even say anything. They either go here or on your ass."

Her eyes narrowed, "I wasn't going to say anything, but how romantic." She said sarcastically.

"Behave, children." Patrick said as he started the car.

Greta smirked, "Yeah."

Faith rolled her eyes.

"I wonder how safe this is..." Brendon said to himself as he noted at the lack of seat-belts and the open windows.

"It's safe." Thomas said.

"As long as Pete's not driving, we're good." Blake added.

"Thanks, guys." Pete commented from up front.

They drove on. Brendon wished he could sleep or something. Instead, he just laid his head back and closed his eyes.

"How long will this take?" Faith inquired, feeling incredibly uncomfortable.

"We have to go around and stop off at places. Make it seem like we went out of town." Pete said, "Which actually requires leaving town. So I'd get as comfy as you can."

Faith made a noise of irritation.

Brendon couldn't help but chuckle at her distaste.

"I will elbow you in the chest if you don't stop." She told him.

"Sorry, I can't help it."

After a whil,e everyone was starting to get hungry. "Can we stop?" Thomas asked.

"Yeah, I think we need to stretch our legs." Greta answered.

Faith nodded, "Please! I'm getting leg cramps."

"Oh, you're getting leg cramps." Brendon said, "At least you don't have a person sitting on you."

She elbowed him in the chest, "Shut up."

"Yeah, yeah, yeah..." Patrick saw a small gas station with a tiny diner attached coming up. He slowed down and turned into it. Brendon lifted his arms up to let Faith get out. All the others filed out of the car, but the chained vampire stayed in.

Faith got out quickly and began to stretch. "I'm going into the diner." She announced and walked off. She was followed closely by Greta, Sierra, and Thomas.

Blake went in to buy gas while Patrick followed the others. Pete stayed with Brendon.

"Does anyone know how far we're going?" Sierra asked as they sat down.

"No clue." Faith said, looking at Thomas.

"They mentioned something... I don't think we're going too far. Too much longer and we'll have to stay out here so Pete and Brendon don't die." He said slowly.

"Pete actually does have something set up in case we take too long." Patrick told them.

"Oh, well that's good." Greta commented.

"I do not want to even try to sleep in that car." Sierra said.

"Yeah, that is not gonna happen." Faith said adamantly, "I'll start walking home if that's the case."

“We can just rent a hotel room." Patrick stated.

Their conversation attracted a few ears, "You guys new in town?" a man asked in the booth behind Sierra and Thomas.

Faith raised an eyebrow, "Passing through." She answered.

"Oh yeah? And lookin' for a place to stay... well, I know a good place."

Faith gave a glance to Patrick and Thomas, then to the man, "We'll be fine. Thanks."

"Come on, honey." One of his friends pulled up a chair beside Faith while the main one sat right next to Sierra.

"Don't call me honey." She said in a bored but serious voice. Sierra moved an inch closer to Thomas, casting a wary glance at the men.

Blake walked in and saw the situation before going back out to Pete.

"Hey, man. I think you need to go back home." Patrick told the guys.

"We're passing through and hopefully we'll be back to the city soon." Greta said calmly, though she had taken Patrick's hand under the table without thinking much about it.

"Sweetheart, you don't need that vamp-infested city. We can keep you safe and warm here."

"No, thanks." Greta said, her cheeks turning slightly pink.

Faith looked at the men, "I suggest you leave us the hell alone before I break your arms."

They laughed, "You can try."

She raised an eyebrow at them.

"I wouldn't challenge her like that." Thomas said.

"No one asked you." They said dismissively.

"All right." Faith was irritated now, she brought her arm around. Her fist smashed into the odd fellow's nose.

The patrons of the diner got up and left, not bothering to help the outsiders. The man cried out and held his face. His friend frowned, "You bitch." He pulled back his arm with all intentions of knocking Faith out.

Brendon caught the fist inches in front of her face, "Now that's not very nice."

"Shouldn't have tried my patience." She said to the man before looking at Brendon, "Thanks."

Brendon didn't respond. There was a small trace of blood in the room and he hadn't eaten in nearly two days. These men had even more friends and they were starting to come after them.

"You need to get out now." Pete told them.

Faith tensed, "If you guys want to live... you need to get out of here now." She said as calmly as possible.

Patrick was pulling Greta and the others out of the booths, "Faith, come on." He said quietly, he saw that neither side of the fight would back down. It would end up in a mess.

She cast a glance to Patrick, "We're just gonna leave these men with them?"

"Oh, trust me, Pete could take them all down. I don't even want to know what one of William's loyal minions could do."

She frowned, “Fine...” Faith jumped out of the booth, following Patrick and the others out.

Blake was outside waiting for them by the car, "Are you guys okay?"

"I'm fine." Faith said, sitting on the back of the car.

Thomas leaned against the car.

"I think we're all fine." Greta agreed.

Faintly in the background, police sirens could be heard. A few moments later, Brendon and Pete appeared, "We have to get out of here fast."

"No kidding." Faith commented. She opened the back door of the car and everyone clambered in. She looked at Brendon, "You safe?"

"What does that mean?" He asked with a scowl.

"If I have to sit on your lap again you aren't going to try and bite me?"

"If you're so afraid of me, sit on Blake."

"I am not afraid." She said coolly. Faith looked up. The sirens were getting closer, "Get in the damn car."

Brendon squeezed in to the car and looked at Faith.

She slipped into the car and sat on his lap, "Let's get out of here."

Pete was at the wheel this time and had no problem speeding off. Brendon had to hold onto Faith so she wouldn't fly out the windshield.

Faith had a hand on the back of Pete's seat, holding on, trying to not think about the way Brendon was holding her.

They sped on for what could have been hours until Pete swerved off to what was something resembling a farm and an old barn. He hit the brakes and Faith slammed into Brendon. Her neck was incredibly close to his mouth. His entire body tensed.

"Jeez, Pete!" Thomas shouted. "Learn how to drive."

Faith's hands went to her neck, "I'm going to be sore for weeks."

"We all lived didn't, we?" Pete asked rhetorically.

"Faith," Brendon said very quietly, "I suggest you move somewhere else."

She frowned and thought about it for a moment, her eyes went wide and she opened the door quickly and tumbled out.

Sierra followed shortly, but for different reasons. Patrick was outside the car as well. Brendon swallowed and closed his eyes, trying to think of something else aside from his hunger.

Faith got to her feet, brushing dirt off of her pants, "Pete, you brought some of that supplement stuff you drink, didn't you?"

Brendon opened on eye to look at her, "That drink is vile."

"I don't care if it's vile." Faith said looking at him, "You aren't going to have our blood."

"Who said I wanted it?"

"You are hungry..." She pointed out.

"Doesn't mean I'm going to come after you all."

"Well, you aren't killing any other humans, let alone drinking from them."

"Is now the best time for you to be fighting with me?"

She narrowed her eyes, "Don't even think about it, Brendon."

"Faith, stop taking everything I do so personally."

She made an irritated noise with her mouth and looked at Pete, "So, now what?"

"This is the place to spend the day for me and Brendon. We've only got a hour, if even that."

"Where are we sleeping?" Greta asked.

"There's some places in the barn."

"Cozy..." Faith muttered and began to walk towards the barn, wanting anything to be away from the others, especially Brendon.

Brendon sighed. When she was far away, he got out of the car.

Sierra was holding herself, shivering, "Please tell me there's at least more then hay to keep warm with in there."

Thomas took his jacket off and gave it to Sierra.

She smiled at him, "Thanks." Pete looked at the barn, "There's a loft set up with a few beds."

"All right...well we should head in." Greta said.

"I agree." Patrick nodded. Pete went into the car and grabbed something, "Yeah, okay, let's go."

Greta looked at Patrick and then began to head off in the direction of where Faith had gone.

Everyone but Brendon followed. He stayed by the car, slumping down to the dirt.

Faith looked up as the others came in. She was exhausted but didn't want to sleep. She waited until they were settled in and quietly left the room. According to her watch, it would be another hour or so until dawn. Slowly, she began to walk until she found herself at the car, "What are you doing awake?" She asked, looking at Brendon.

He looked up at her, and shrugged.

"It'll be dawn soon."

"I know. I can feel it."

"Then why don't you go underground like Pete?"

"I'm... tempting fate."

"Well, that's just stupid." She commented, sitting down next to him.

"You're doing the exact same thing." He told her.

"By sitting next to a hungry Vampire?" She shrugged, "Oh well."

He leaned his head back, "This isn't fun anymore."

"I can't see being a vampire is very fun."

"It has its moments." He sighed, "Better then being a human."

"I find that hard to believe."

"Did I mention I was abandoned in Las Vegas?" He asked.

"Well... no, because you didn't finish telling me your story." She answered.

"I've seen more bad than good come out of human beings. I don't want anything to do with it."

"Well I can agree that humans can be cruel, stupid, and horrible things... but Vampires aren't a lot better."

"Your history and facts on us are warped though."

"Oh, really?" She asked with a scoff.

"You're so negative to everything I say just because vampires killed your parents. I am sorry for that, I really am... but not all of us did that and not all of us want to do that."

"Well, prove me wrong then." She said, giving him a look.

"I'm starving and surrounded by you all. I'm not killing you when you would gladly kill me."

Faith shrugged, "Good point."

He nodded, "For every flaw you can point out in me, I have three more for you."

"Well, I never claimed to be perfect." She muttered, looking down at the ground.

"You're big on making me feel like the scum of the Earth though."

She shrugged, "You and Pete are the first half decent Vampires I've ever come across."

He raised an eyebrow, "I'm half decent now?”

"Well, you haven't killed us all yet."

"Fair enough.”

"Yeah so as long as you keep this up," Faith joked, "You'll be somewhat okay in my book."

"Oh, well, if it gets to be a better title for you, I guess I'll have to be on my best behavior." He looked at her and smiled genuinely for the first time in a long while.

She returned the smile, "You should smile more often. It's nice."

If he could have blushed, he would have. A breeze picked up and blew against them. Brendon reached up without realizing it and pushed back her hair out of her face and behind her ear. "You should too."

She looked at him, "Thanks." Faith's heart was hammering.

He leaned in just a little closer, "That's twice you've thanked me tonight."

"Are you keeping score?"

"Making an observation." He answered.

She shook her head but smiled.

He couldn't help but mirror her expression. They weren't more than an inch apart now.

Faith looked down. When she turned back to him, their lips met.

Brendon didn't retract. Instead, he pressed on. One of his cool hands cupped her cheek.

She leaned to him, feeling amazing. Faith had never kissed a boy before. This was wonderful. She was temporarily forgetting who she was and who she was even kissing.

Brendon was equally lost in her warmth. She reminded him of the early morning and lemonade. She was all the things he missed in one being. It felt good to let go.

After a moment Faith seemed to realized what was going on. She pulled away and stared at him. "Shit... that..." She checked her watch, "It's almost dawn." Faith scrambled to her feet and ran off into the dark.

He didn't even have a chance to say anything. His skin began to burn as the sun started to rise. He had no choice but to run as fast as he could into the underground.
