He'll never get used to the smell of blood. It’s cloying, almost sweet; it’s just like hairspray in the way it gets in his mouth, becoming a harsh, bitter, oily taste on his tongue. The first time he smelled it at a crime scene, he almost fainted it was so heady.
McGee is somewhat aware that it’s all in his head. The scent is hard to detect, unless there’s a lot of blood smeared around. But that doesn’t stop him from inhaling deeply when he first steps under the police tape, taking in that first glorious breath of tainted air.
