Title: Burn
Author: Rae
Rating: G
Genre: Angst
Warnings/Spoilers: Set in 2x11 Adrift.
Summary: In the end Jack will lose them all.
A/N: Not going to pretend that this probably won’t make any sense to you but for me it’s all about the subtext between Jack and Gwen surrounding what happened to Jonas. It’s basically an unspoken conversation neither is willing to have.
Pain ricocheted of the walls, the scream vibrated in every part of the room; deafening, heart-breaking. Wanna watch me burn.
The echo doesn’t leave, can’t reclaim what was lost. Mind, body and soul. Eternally damned but for him death isn’t an option.
‘Why?'
‘Because I won’t kill your soul.'
‘But I’m already burning.’
‘Then I’ll save you.’
‘Too late. I’m already dead.’
‘Never.’
‘Can’t you see it?’
‘No.’
‘Shame on you. Close your eyes and its over.’
‘I don’t want to.’
‘You’re gonna lose me. Tomorrow, next year -- it’s gonna come.’
‘Then let it bring us all to hell.'
A/N2: I feel like I needed to explain this more. That there is too much crazy subtext. Basically it starts off being about Jonas. How helpless Jack feels in how much he can actually do for Jonas. But for Jack in his work and his personal life death isn't something he can do. He can't die and he can't kill Jonas. It isn't who he is.
So Gwen (In a subtextual conversation) is then asking him why? Why can't you save him? He's in pain. So Jack is saying I won't do that, I won't become that monster. But then she replies well I'm burning to, it's only a matter of time before that's me. Everything we see. I'll be him. But Jack is refusing that because you know, he's the hero. He thinks he can save her. But we all know he really can't and he knows it too.
