That's a sentence that tends to mark the beginning of a doomed attempt by someone to recommit to updating their blog, online journal, or whatever you want to call it.  I've done it myself more than once.

Well, screw that.  This thing was supposed to be fun, not a chore.  Entertainment, and perhaps an attempt

At the end of the day, each individual person on this planet has to make a choice. There's a balance between short-term life gain and long-term life gain; it takes many forms - "eating right", "exercising", "saving money", "not robbing a bank". Every day, you choose between the two. There are occasions where you find an option that is good in both the short and long terms, but those are so rare as to be negligible, and you can never be sure you haven't overlooked a long-term cost; just look at how people saw smoking back in the 50's.
