On Sunday, Philip Reeve and I whizzed from Bath Kids Lit Fest to Coventry, and then to Hinkley to give a very short presentation at the
Booksellers Association Conference. (Well, I saw 'whizzed'; it took three trains, a replacement bus service and a taxi to get there.) But we're glad we did! It was a chance to meet lots of booksellers, several of whom had taken part in the
'Reeve & McIntyre Big Up Bookshops' virtual tour, where Kevin flew around during Lockdown and appeared in paintings at fourteen bookshops. I've only been in person to six of the fourteen, so there were still lots of people to meet, and it was great to shake hands and chat with them! But the first challenge was simply to figure out who was sitting at my dinner table.
Philip was sat way over at a different table but I pestered him a few times.
He'd been keeping busy there during the rather difficult Pub Quiz. (Love the blackbird pie, Philip!)
There on the left, that's excellent Meggie Dennis from our publisher David Fickling Books, who was looking after us for the evening!
We were the final act in a packed dinner show with lots of authors for grownups, but we led the (very merry) crowd in drawing Pedro and completely missed that someone had drawn a willy in the corner of the flipchart, which was projected across the room (wahey!). Anyway, it was kind of odd doing an event for grownups after all these children's events, but we felt very honoured to be asked. Big thanks to Meryl, Sam, Meggie, Stuart and everyone who coordinated our visit!
