I am so excited and nervous and stoked for this week! So a month ago I interviewed for Outdoor Science School-which I've been wanting to do for years. It was a scary choice to make-leave a secure, good, enjoyable job near home to go work in the mountains and live with children five days a week. Last Monday I started staff training, and tomorrow we get our first school! But so I'm teaching astronomy, geology, general outdoorsiness, and nocturnally stuff (that's the technical term), most of which I learned last week. Which is the scariest part-I get to observe ONE academic hike with children on Tuesday, and then on Wednesday I lead my own group of 25 or so 5th graders and teach them geology. Woot. But honestly-so freakin excited for this year! The staff is amazing-a bunch of nature-loving, welcoming, loving, sometimes hippies people between the ages of 18 and 40-ish who all come together for this year to teach kids about the outdoors. I will have a cabin of 8-12 girls each week and teach activities and academic hikes to them and their classmates.
But I get to live, work, and play in the mountains Monday-Friday, then come home Saturday and Sunday and SLEEEEEEEEP my life away. I love this. :-D
