Dilema!

Ok people, here's the problem: I am moving from MD to VA this month. The Primary election for both states is on Feb 12th. Technically I will no longer be a resident of MD so I can't vote in MD. However, in VA you have to submit your voters registration at least 29 days prior to an election to be eligible to vote. I've looked up early voting ( Read more... )

Can I do that? I guess I can considering someone else we know got away with having an unregistered car for 9 months and still hasn't changed their address on their license/car insurance.

As long as you haven't registered to change your voting yet, you should be fine...

Nice. Did that affect your car insurance at all?

They don't care where your license is. I told them I had PA plates, and I parked it in MD every night. But the car was in my name and my mother's (she's in PA) so it was still legal. When you move to VA I'm sure they'll be more anal about it because from what I hear they collect property tax on your car.

Its a pain to register your car in VA but I think you get 30 days to do it in so...

You don't, but when you get a new license, you register to vote as well...

Shouldn't have to but I have no idea where my voter registration card is. I think I just have to show them a bill with my address or something.

You don't need to show anything. You just show up and tell them your name. There was some crap about that showing your ID violates civil liberties or something, because poor people can't afford cars and might not have driver's licenses because of it, and thusly wouldn't have ID to show if that was a requirement. The ACLU drives me nuts.

there is a state or two that requires photo identification. Voting laws are mostly handled at the state level. So you can or can not.

Most people think this is how the GOP is gonna win the election. THey are trying to pass a bill that requires ID for voting, which rules out the elderly (who dont drive) and the poor (who mostly dont have enough paper to get the id)
