From couch to 5K End of week 1

Aug 22, 2009 21:28

So if I had stuck to the schedule  would have gotten up early to run yesterday morning.  But Chris closed late on Thursday so we agreed to run today instead.  We slept too long and Chris had to go to work, but I decided I was going to run today anyway.

But I felt like CRAP.  Headache, hot and cold flashes, bloated, PMS-y, and a little queezy.  So I ate breakfast, and took a nap.  I felt much better by the evening, so I decided I was gonna go for a run.

This was the last day of the "alternate running for 1 minute and brisk walking for 90 seconds for 30 minutes."  Again, it was pretty easy.  But it was humid, so I was sweaty and tired by the end of it.  I like running in the evening.  It's not as crowded and not as buggy as I remember it being in VT when I would run.

Next week we lengthen the running time and walking times.  This really seems to be an easy transition from being out of shape to getting back in shape.  I don't know if I find it easy because I used to be such an athelete and I remember how good it feels have achy muscles.  Colleen and Phlip join us again on Monday.  Hopefully they kept up the running while they were enjoying Vermont.  Can't blame them if they didn't though.  There are many other things I'd enjoy doing in VT over running.

I think the key to the success of this plan is that there is a schedule to follow.  And I react well to schedules.  That, and I am writing about our progress.

I wish there was a 5K at the end of October I could sign up for.  Alas, all the races I have found are too soon, or too far away.  Oh well.
