London Trip

May 21, 2005 11:57

Jenny and I went to London for 2 days…we left Thursday morning with Megabus, but we almost never made it to the bus. We were supposed to take a bus into town at 5:20 in the morning but as always with the reliability of Leeds public transport the bus never got there…this group of 4 young lads and girls, drunk, and who obviously hadn’t gone to sleep yet came in our direction and luckily happened to have a taxi number. It was half five and our bus was leaving Leeds at 5:45am…the taxi got there 2 minutes later and he raced us down to the station…we got on the bus just before it departed. The trip went well and fast, spent between sleep and listening to music…we got to London and headed straight to Buckingham Palace, where the Queen was due to leave the palace when we were there (but I only heard of this yesterday, oups)…we got tired of waiting for what we didn’t know was suppose to happen…we headed through “Green Park”, then to “Trafalgar Square” where we ate Sushi from Tesco (not as nice as a real restaurant), amongst other things…we then went to “Westminster”, and saw the « Big Ben », and then « Westminster Abbey »…we then headed to this little park, close to the Thames river, which is sort of hidden behind tall trees and bushes…it was fairly quiet and peaceful…we then took a boat on the Thames River…I was scared of getting sea sick as I usually am, but it went ok, even though the weather wasn’t great…the boat dropped us off at Greenwich, where we went to the market…I bought some books and a little wooden statue…the boat took us back to Westminster…then we went “Leicester Square” and “Covent Garden”…we then went to our Hotel, a 5 star hotel which is part of the group I work in, it’s called “The Academy Hotel”…we got a very nice room in it…the service was great…I got Bubble bath brought to my room about 2 minutes after I called, and we got breakfast in bed as well the next morning…the bed was so comfortable (I slept like a Baby) I wouldn’t have minded staying in Bed all day to be honest…we checked out at about 10am and headed to “the British Museum” which was great, then we went back to a shop I had seen some shoes the day before and I got a pair…we sent through Soho, which was great, I love small street like those, full of colours!!! We then went to Camden town which is crazy, with all those markets and shops full of cloth and accessories…we ate some Chinese food near the canal, which we then followed a bit more and discovered how beautiful it was as you went further and further along it…we then took the tube again and went to “Notting Hill” where we wanted to find Julia Roberts house when they made the film, but we didn’t really know where it was and gave up…we instead went to a little café called “Lazy café” which is sort of hidden from the street…I really liked it, it was peaceful…we ended our trip with a nice little nap in “Hyde Park”…
The return trip was fine; again we slept for a while and then just watched the sun set…
