Just a bit of background stuff...
Home at the moment is Schafer House, halls of residence for 1st year (mainly) UCL students. I live in a flat shared with 5 other people. We all share a kitchen (bloody useless cooker!), two toilets and a shower. I miss having a bath! Usually I am a bath addict! The flat is pretty basic and institutional but serves its purpose, and there is no point in having anything nice anyway because it will get trashed by Keiran and his friends.
I tend to avoid flatmates by spending most of my time in my room, which I have tried to make look as homely as possible. The walls are covered in posters, cards, photos and hangings, and there are random objects which I am sentimental about scattered around the room. Like my first teddy bear (Polly Ted), and my kalabash from Ghana. I have my laptop for playing DVD's and internet (oh yea and essay writing of course) on my desk. A sink in the corner, single bed and other random bits of furniture. My room is my private area, and I am very fussy about who can come in and when. I like my own little place to escape to!
I have only just returned here, for the last week I was staying at home home. My parents house, and where I have lived since I was bought back from the hospital in my Mum's arms. I live in a small village in Shropshire called Knowbury. I love going back because it feels so friendly. The local pub - The Bennetts - is where I meet most of my friends in the village, and also where I work and where I met Lawrie (my boss's best friend). When I am in London, although i never ever get homesick because I love to be out experiencing different things and places, I do miss some things about home home. Firstly the fresh air and country walks with pretty views. Then there is nothing better than relaxing in your own home. But mostly i miss the people. It's a strange mix of people that I am friends with, but fantastic. Here are the main players:
Mum, Dad and Katie (my sister). Can't even begin to describe my family. I love them to bits and more.
Cilla, Sue, Lee, Sid, Ken: My next door neighbours who looked after Katie and I every day when my parents were at work when I was growing up. They are real country folk, have lived in Knowbury all of their lives (Sid and Ken, identical twins, are 83...they still dress the same as each other and are insepearable!), and never been to London. Fantastic people...you won;t meet anyone with kinder hearts anywhere.
The Bennetts Crew (the main players, there are many more!)...
Polly and Steve: Owners. Fantastic people. I can't say that they are my bosses, we go out drinking together, take the piss out of each other and generally have a laugh. Very good friends, and they have done a lot for me, especially regarding my dysfunctional love life.
Jenna: 21, in her final year of university. A great laugh and one of my closest friends.
Caz: 20, lives just diwn the road in London as well as in Knowbury.
Del: 40's, Very funny bloke, bit of a reputation for his strange habits with women...
Sue: 50's? and a tart! Just met a bloke on the net. Absolutely hilarious sense of humour, as has everyone down the pub.
Mo: Jenna's Mum. Best sounding laugh ever.
Welsh John: Likes to say 'Shaaaag'
Baz: Just Baz really.
Wendy: Would be a mama if she was african. Wears 6 inch heels. car mechanic.
Simon: Wendy's husband. Just as bad/keen as me on kareoke nights.
And of course Lawrie!
I always have a great laugh with all of these people, and they make Knowbury the...erm...highly exciting??? place that it is.
