Velvet Goldmine got me into fanfic.  It therefore got me into LJ.

If you love Velvet Goldmine, if you've written fic for it, if you've watched it a million times and loved it more with each viewing, I think this is for you.  These are some of the last words from Todd Haynes and producer Christine Vachon on the blu-ray commentary.  I damn near teared up listening to them, especially after the entire commentary, which was very generous, fond, highly complimentary of fans, and altogether lovely.

This is during the final performance of "2HB" at the Death of Glitter concert at the film's final few frames:

Haynes:  I wanted to make a movie, you know, I wanted to make a movie -- one of those trippy drug movies for teenagers, the kind that I saw when I was a teenager.  That kind of performance that you would, you know, watch over and over again, you get stoned and you'd watch it and you'd get the record and you'd stay up all night with your friends analyzing what it's about.  And when Velvet Goldmine came out of DVD, it generated that kind of fan connection -- that kind of obsession and love.  I just felt that...we'd done it.

Vachon:  It finally found its audience.

Haynes:  Yeah.

[camera moves up to Curt and Arthur, post-coital, lounging on the roof]

Vachon:  I love that shot.

Haynes:  [laughs]  Yeah.
