updating at work

This is also cross posted on MySpace

So I am sitting here at work. The library that I work at is celebrating being open for 100 years this year, and this week they are staying open for 100 hours straight, and I got stuck with the evening shift. Its not to bad, except for the fact that part of the 100 hours celebration includes someone reading for the entire 100 hours, and they are reading right next to my desk. Which can be ok, but most of the time is really annoying, and even more so when someone who is scheduled to read doesn’t show up. Guess who has to read then, yup its me. I have only had to read one hour so far, but the night is young.

However, in general life has been going pretty well. I am enjoying have a summer off of classes, and getting more time to spend with my daughter and wife. Although my wife just got over her cold, and now my daughter has it. Its tough when your child is sick and there is nothing you can do but comfort her. She has been sick for a couple of days so hopefully she will feel better soon. I thought I was going to take a class in Real Estate over the summer, unfortunately it was cancelled and the other months that it is offered interferes with other things I have going on. Its not a huge lose, I mean I was never that excited about taking the class, but it would have been useful to have a real estate license. I know Ivy Tech is starting to offer real estate classes, and they will be looking for more adjunct faculty to fill some of them, and that would help my resume out. I have had one phone interview with Ivy Tech so far, and they said that my resume looked good, and I would be valuable to them in the area of teaching remedial classes, and basic English classes, but they couldn’t guarantee any position for me yet. They told me that they had all of their summer teaching positions filled, but they were still hiring for the fall, and that they would make their choices, and let me know by August. So I will keep my fingers crossed, I really want to get a job there. Not only does it pay more that triple what I make at the library, but it is also practical experience in the field that I want. Teaching a few semesters as adjunct faculty while I finish my master’s degree would certainly help me get a job at a bigger university when I am ready to move on. On the same note a couple of my cousins will be going to Ivy Tech in the fall, and it would be really funny if ended up teaching a class of theirs.

I am sure there is more to say, but I work tomorrow night as well, so perhaps I will update again then.
