All this talk of Under the Redcoat has renewed my interest in the Striped linen gown I started ages ago. I figure it will always be a little not quite what I want, but at least if it is done I can wear it. Right now I am focusing on just finishing the outfit. After that I can figure out ways to smarten it up and trouble-shoot the skirt/bodice join mess-up. AKA Hide it with trim.

I started by pining the fashion linen to the lining, and then stitching along the edges and seams. I tried to do that fancy 18th century edge stitch (name escaping me) and I think I got it but damn it took forever compared to back-stitching the seams.

Next up was wrestling the stays on the dress form for draping the back. I used Costume Close-up and Costume in Detail for reference for the en fourreau. Next up is back-stithing all the pleats, then it is time to wrestle the skirt into the waistline. That is not going to be fun...not at all :(

And the petticoats are now all done:

Bless my dad for helping, but I don't think he fully understands the process of hemming. Each of those little bunches was about 6 inches of fabric. Since then the skirt has been hand-hemmed. I gave it a healthy depth just in case I have to change it later.

I am contemplating adding more umpf to my petticoat. Despite two rows of horsehair it is still pretty limp. It probably doesn't help that my fashion fabric is surprisingly drapey.
