So day one of my week off (for a vacation we're not taking, but I'm using to work on a writing project), and it's 109 degrees Fahrenheit outside. I braved the murderous sun to hit a grocery store for veggies so I can make cold soup. Avocado and cucumbers, here I come.

The wind picked up as I was driving home from work. I didn't really notice, so when I turned onto my street (which is lined with tall palm trees) and something thudded onto my windshield, I freaked out just a little.

It was only a palm frond, and even the heavy end didn't damage the glass or the paint job, but wow, it just about stopped my heart.

The sky outside right now is pale blue, a mackerel sky with the scaled clouds all along it. I love this kind of sky; we almost never see it here in L.A.

It is raining beautifully here. *lifts face to the raindrops*

But today looks like it will be just as toasty as yesterday, and yesterday was quite miserable, to be honest. I do not cope well with heat, nor do we have proper air-conditioning in this house. So I either suffer in silence (open windows and fans only do so much when the temperature is around 102 F), or I take myself to one of the local coffee ( Read more... )

It's raining! With long rolling thunder! In L.A.! \o/

And I'm about to go out in it to do laundry. Awesome. :)

I woke up this morning around 5am to the sound of rain, and it rained off and on all morning. Now, though? It's windy, with sunshine on the palm trees, blue skies, and piles of fluffy clouds being driven along.

Mind you, it obviously doesn't compare to the storms and tornadoes that Georgia and the Carolinas have been dealing with this past weekend. (Darn it, I can't find a web page that'll give me the wind speed--I almost got up and turned on the Weather Channel at 5am to check ( Read more... )

Okay. It's a bright sunny day here in Los Angeles. And the wind is blowing--no breeze, this. It's sending huge clouds of dust racing past my office building, and bending every tree in sight around like a rubber toy ( Read more... )

We had some strange weather in L.A. yesterday. It started out cool and sunny, but around noon clouds rolled in and we had about 30 minutes of wind and steady rainfall. Then the clouds went on their merry way south-east, the sun came back out, and the winds picked up to somewhere around 30 mph (at least). A tree blew down in my office parking lot ( Read more... )
