Summary: Sho's life suddenly changes when he meets a shy boy named Satoshi.
.
“Nice to meet you, Ohno Satoshi desu...” He muttered shyly; his voice was almost a whisper, but Sho could hear him properly. The dark-haired boy stared at Ohno’s clothes; below his sloppy shirt, he was wearing a lemon green baggy jeans and a pair of ivory converse. As he looked back at his face, again, Sho felt like his heart was shrinking. He was really beautiful... He had dark brown hair, small and sleepy eyes, and Sho wanted to be lost in them and find out all the secrets he was hiding. His lips seemed to have been sculptured carefully, and when he smiled...
.
That was the most beautiful smile he had ever seen.
.
“The pleasure is mine, Ohno-kun. I hope to see you around” Sho answered as he tried to calm himself, he felt like his crazy heartbeats could be heard throughout the hall.
.
“I bet you will. Satoshi, look. This guy is one of the people whom I trust more, so if you ever need help, don’t hesitate to ask him for it. He’ll be happy to do so, no matter how he likes it or not, right, Sakurai-kun?” Nagase asked; expectantly looking at Sho. The alluded only nodded.
.
“Don’t worry, I'll help you with anything...” Ohno bowed and Nagase said farewell to Sho, resuming his walk down the long corridor with his nephew behind him, leaving the dark-haired boy standing, still remembering the thousand things he had felt when he saw that boy in front of him.
.
He even had forgotten what it was that he was going to do. Slowly, he started walking down the stairs, shaking his head to clear those thoughts inside.
.
Did he really have fallen in love at first sight?
.
Apparently, so it had been.
.
He had fallen in love with no chance to resist, to say no; in just seconds, he simply had been hypnotized by his angelic aura and the innocence that radiated from that beautiful being called Ohno Satoshi.
.
.
After that sweet moment, all the remaining hours of that day were spent by thinking about Ohno and nothing but him. Sho scolded himself for his stupidity, because that day he had been daydreaming in class and he hadn’t understood a thing, neither had he answered the question given to him by the teacher. That night when he returned home with Nino, his friend looked at him meaningfully in curiosity.
.
“Sho-kun, is there something wrong? Were you bitten by a bug or something?” He asked.
.
“Not Nino, I'm perfect.” Sho sighed. “Today I’m feeling better than ever, so don’t worry.”
.
“You’re making a stupid face and that’s really worrying, but if you say that you're okay...” Nino raised up his hands in surrender. “I believe you.”
.
“Don’t call me stupid, you hurt my feelings.”
.
“I said ‘stupid face’. I didn’t said you’re stupid.” The youngest laughed and settled his bag in one shoulder.
“If I don’t love you so much, I would have kicked you.” Sho said, looking at Nino with amusement.
.
“You wouldn’t, you can’t live without me.”
.
“Unfortunately, you're right, you dwarf.” Sho said pulling out his key from his pocket, placing it in the lock. “I can’t live without you.”
.
Nino laughed and gently pushed his friend, praying internally that his words were entirely true. As they entered the house, they ate something light for dinner and Nino locked himself in his room, as he had to start making a composition that would take him quite some time, and although he wanted to to be with Sho, he couldn’t. He must devote full attention to their work, so Nino left him alone.
.
.
That quiet night after Nino had left him alone, Sho went to the back of the house where they had a small garden. It was his favorite favorite place in the house, especially in times like this, when Ohno had invaded his mind, without giving him the opportunity to think about something else.
.
“Somebody looks very thoughtful tonight.” A female voice called him out from his daze. Sho smiled at his neighbor (although she spent more time in this house rather on her own) and fellow faculty, Yagami Rola.
.
“Rola-chan, how long have you been here?” He asked curiously.
.
“I have enough time here to see you and realize that you’re very happy today.” The girl leaned both arms on the small wall that distanced both homes. “Something interesting happened today?”
.
“Same as usual, nothing special.”
.
“Nothing special? With such a big smile, I would say something nice has happened, Sakurai-kun.” Rola raised her eyebrows before smiling again.
.
“For real, nothing is happening.” He sighed, feeling a little sorry for drawing attention among his friends. “I’m okay, nothing happened today.”
.
“ You don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to, but remember I'm a girl and girls have something called intuition.” Said Rola in response, raising an eyebrow. “I know exactly what causes this "nothing" you have. It is the same "nothing" that I felt a long time ago...” She stopped abruptly. “Never mind, I didn’t said anything, Sakurai-kun.”
.
Sho laughed out loud while listening to her friend and he shook his head. He knew perfectly what her friend had meant; ever since he meet her, Sho knew she had feelings for Aiba. Although she flatly refused to admit it, but that was pretty obvious. In fact, he knew that the main reason she was always there, was so she’d chance to meet Aiba.
.
“I won’t say anything, don’t worry.” He whispered and sighed. “I think I better go to sleep, Rola-chan.”
.
“Uh, well, when you want to talk about that "nothing", I'll be here.”
.
“I’ll do it.” Sho stood up and waved goodbye, Rola made the same gesture.
.
“By the way, where is he...?”
.
“He’s working with Rebecca-san; it seems he’ll be home late today.” Sho interrupted her gently. “You know.”
.
“Oh, sure. Well, see you tomorrow, Sakurai-kun, oyasumi…”
.
Sho said goodbye to the girl again, giving her a big smile before going into the house, feeling relieved but also scared that it was very obvious that he had feelings for Ohno.
.
.
“Where is my dad?” He asked in confusion.
.
Many people were moving around the crowded restaurant; police, journalists, curious people... there were exclamations of surprise and shocked faces, which he did not understand at all.
.
“Mom? Dad?” He was looking for his parents, but he couldn’t see them. With difficulty, he forced his way against the group of people and entered the restaurant, feeling completely overwhelmed. They were there, unmoving on the ground; both in a puddle of blood and some tables and the floor were stained with scarlet liquid.
.
The little Satoshi ran towards them, despite the facts that his pants could get dirty; he knelt in front of them, touching one of his mother's cheeks.
.
“Mommy? Mom opens your eyes, onegai...” He whispered as his eyes were filled with tears. “Mom, look at me.” His little voice broke. He cocked his head and looked at his father. “Daddy, what have they done to you...?”
.
.
Satoshi opened his eyes, feeling suffocated. His forehead was wet with sweat and that dull pain in his chest began to attack him forcefully, removing his strength, making him hard to breathe... again.
.
He had a panic attack again.
.
He wanted to die again.
.
“Ahh...” He tried to say something as he get off ot the bed. But he fell on the ground; his body began to shake violently thanks to it. He wanted to call his uncle, but the voice didn’t come out; he just could babble nonsense as the pain in his chest was growing with every seconds that passed by.
.
The door was suddenly opened; Nagase entered the room with a oxygen mask on his hands and he knelt beside the struggling Satoshi who was next to him, making a hard effort to breathe.
.
“Come on, Satoshi...” He helped him to sit up, putting the oxygen mask in his nose and mouth. “Come on, try to breathe... you can do it, come on...” Satoshi was gradually recovering his breath, feeling the air returned again to his lungs and the pain in the chest was subsiding slowly. “That's right... Good boy...”
.
When the attack has stopped, Nagase helped his nephew to go back to bed; he brought him a cup of milk with honey to make him calm down a little more. Satoshi took the cup with his small hands, thanking his uncle in silence with a simple nod.
.
“You feel better?” He asked quietly, sitting on the bed.
.
“I think so.” Satoshi sighed before drinking some milk.
.
“You want to tell me what happened?”
.
“I had a nightmare. It's the same as always... I see mom and dad... dead.” He paused and sighed. “This time, this nightmare affected me too much and I ended up having a panic attack. Gomennasai.”
.
“You don’t need to apologize, its normal.” Nagase smiled and Satoshi shrugged, returning to drink another gulp of milk.
.
“I'll be fine, don’t worry.” He said quietly.
.
“That means you want me out of here, right?” Satoshi smiled. “Okay, but I’ll be here if you need anything. Don’t hesitate to call me, okay?”
As his uncle left the room, Satoshi sighed again. Whenever he had that horrible nightmare, the bitter memories, the desire to mourn, the feeling of emptiness and sadness returned and it was taking over him. Eight years ago, he had lost his parents; they had been murdered because the criminal had wanted to steal the profit’s money that his father got from the restaurant that he had managed.
.
Satoshi was living in Nagano with his parents; his father was an expert in finance and her mother was a chef. Both were in charge of the family business, a sushi restaurant that had been open for years and served for generations. Despite being busy, they always had time for their only son, Satoshi, who, as a child, was shy and had some difficulty to getting close to others; another reason to be more attached to his parents. He was always with them, telling them about anything... until that day.
.
He was nine when his parents were murdered. And since that day, his life wasn’t the same. He moved to the house of his grandparents. In that place, Satoshi became interested in art; he took his uncle, Tomoya, utensils and painted.
.
What had started as a hobby, turned out to be his way of expressing himself. With watercolors and brush, Satoshi discovered a way to say what he felt without words; the following years, he worked very hard in school and continued devoting himself to painting until his uncle offered him into college to study visual arts. Although he liked being confined in solitude, he couldn’t refuse the opportunity to learn more about something he really loved, and perhaps, he could meet interesting people, like the guy he had seen before.
.
“What was his name?” He asked himself quietly.
.
He couldn’t remember his name at all; he was lousy at remembering names at times. But what Satoshi did remember was the feeling of warmth that came over him when he saw that guy smile. It gave him the impression that he was a good person, and perhaps in the future, they could be friends; Satoshi even doubted it because in high school, he had no friends and he wasn’t the type of person who was confident enough to start a conversation with him, and nobody wanted to be his friend.
.
But that guy was different.
.
Satoshi had the impression that he pleased him; it was the first time anyone smiled to him in that way and he couldn’t deny that it made him feel well, very well...
.
He left the empty cup on the nightstand next to his bed and went to sleep; the next day he had classes and he should rest. Also he needed to calm down completely, because whenever we had those attacks, he spent the whole day disturbed, frightened by any simple thing and he couldn’t stop thinking about his parents.
.
He felt that nothing could make him happy, not even painting, nothing.
.
He felt empty inside.
.
And it would stay that way until the day he died.
