Well it's great that you pick out spiritual experiences. Back in college I went to a christian school. I had little choice as I had my a full ride to go to a christian college. So I developed my faith. I honestly thought I was having a deep relationship with god.
Then I went to movies and concerts and started having the same spiritual experiences. This did not jive. Then I couldn't be gay and be christian (in the sect I was in). Then it all fell apart for me. I had no reason to live, and 12 years later I'm starting to honestly put the pieces back together.
Now when I was shattered I distained what anyone else would tell me about faith and spirituality. If someone was looking for an answer Scientology, cults, and any religion could come in and try and take over.
So I'm basically agreeing with you and telling my story to do so. ^_^
I grew up in the south, spent a fair bit of my childhood with people saying 'epsci-what?' when I was asked my religion (and, since 'southern baptist' wasn't the answer I've been told at least a couple of times I was going to hell, and that was before the gay bishop stuff) and I would say that scientology is still 1000x more scary.
I don't feel guilt about growing up Episcopalian or my later 'conversion' to a sort of self-led pagan path, and neither do most of the people that I practice with.
I made it clear to my roommates (all good friends) when they moved in with me - I don't care what religion you are - baptist, hindu, jewish, muslim (ok, if you're muslim I might serve ham more often) but if you convert to scientology, you're evicted immediately.
Sorry, not trying to jump down your throat, but there is -really- no comparison

Oh the "self-led pagan path" is the best way. It's not the easiest path, no it's hard to figure things out on your own. It's worth it in the end.
