Summary: Inuyasha’s musings on looking at a sleeping Kagome.
Lonely…
Inuyasha awakened to the sound of the rain. For a while, he did not recognize his whereabouts.
‘Oh I slept on the goshinboku…’
The leaves shielded him from the rain but the drumming pounded against his ears.
Listening to the sound made him lonely. It was strange, he thought. He should have gotten used to loneliness by now.
Noiselessly, he leapt down from the tree and crawled into the tent, intending to ask for breakfast.
What he saw left him spellbound instead.
Kagome was leaning against her rucksack, clearly asleep. Books were strewn on the floor, next to an extinguished lamp. In the light of the morning she was looking as pure as an angel.
‘My muse…’
Her aura was so alluring that he ended up closing the gap between them, and positioned her head on his lap. Her warmth felt good; so good, that he wanted to keep looking at her sleeping face forever.
‘It would’ve been so nice if she slept next to me last night,’ he thought. ‘I’d have looked forward to waking up after all.’
He was lonely, so lonely all these years…
His mind jumped to a story Mother had told him once, of a tennyo who married a poor man. When she discovered her hagoromo, she’d flown back to heaven.
‘What if Kagome, too, flies away?’
For the first time, Inuyasha was faced with the possibility.
He couldn’t tell if it was a raindrop or a tear that was sliding down his cheek.
