This is one of the few photos I have of my maternal grandfather, whose name was a mystery until night before last. Mick F. Hendricks (listed in the 1930 census as Hendrex), his wife Ettie (listed as Etta) Mae Hendricks née Hipps, their eldest son James (on the right) and youngest son Edward. My mother wouldn't be born for another 2-3 years.
Not exactly a handsome couple, were they? I just finished posting the photo with the little story on Ancestry.com. He won't be an anonymous man any longer.
Actually, I kind of feel the desire to post pictures of family members long dead before the digital age made it so easy to access images of people. Too bad I have a handful of really cool old photos from the late 1800s but no idea to whom they belong since there are no names on them and no one left to ask.
EDIT: I've since determined that my grandfather's name was actually McFloyd Hendricks, but when they said the name to the census taker he apparently heard 'Mick Floyd Hendrex' which became 'first name Mick, middle initial F'.
