To recap, I rarely remember my dreams, maybe a half dozen or so a year. And when I do remember them they're pretty weird. Maybe that's why I remember them.
So last night I dreamed I was in a trailer home. Not a fancy double wide 'modular home' but a simple old fashioned single wide trailer. The kind you see the low-lifes living in in the cop shows. The trailer was out in the country somewhere right next to a wild swampy place. There was a woman with me but I have no idea who she was. She was rather incidental.
Suddenly there's an earthquake or landslide of something and the trailer pitches and slides and tilts. She's yelling and screaming but not me because I guess in my dreams I'm just too cool for that. For some reason we're looking out the kitchen window that overlooks the swampy area and movement of the earth has displaced a lot of earth and apparently redirected a boy of water because what was just some soggy, plant choked ground with little hillocks and hummocks of higher ground is now just a rising lake of water. But the trailer isn't in danger of being flooded.
Out in the swampy area, on what used to be dry ground is a freaky looking tree. It has a few thick, bare branches - not very many smaller ones - and it's strangely 'blond' colored. It's not bare of bark but the bark is fairly smooth and blond colored. As the water rises up the tree the tree starts to struggle, like a human caught in quicksand and trying to pull it's legs out. The thick branches are flailing around and it begins to bellow kind of panicked and small objects that we can't make out are being flung away from it. The woman and I are both startled but not really panicked.
Next the woman and I are outside, still on dry ground, studying these very small things writhing on the ground. They're also blond and vaguely resemble a starfish shape. In size they'd barely span the palm of my hand.
The woman bends over to observe one more closely and reaches out to flick at one with her finger and the bellowing from the struggling tree increases. The woman picks up a couple of the small things and carelessly steps on a couple of more and the struggling trees furiously wrenches itself from the water covered ground with a tearing sound. Next thing I know the tree, which is about 25 ft tall or so, is standing over the woman and smacking her hard with a branch, like a really big adult backhanding a child. The woman goes flying and I wake up.
The little struggling things were baby trees, just like the big ones. The first thought that entered my mind when I woke was 'Ent' but these were more like the wild trees that the Ents herd. Except those trees aren't supposed to be able to walk. So maybe a wildtree/Ent hybrid?
And WTF?
I have to say though, if I'm going to remember dreams I'm glad they're at least entertaining and that I don't have 'nightmares'. No nightmares in that the freaky things I dream don't scare me.
But really? WTF?
