Fannish update

Of course while I'm without my computer I want to write. I've lost the knack of fiction writing in longhand except for shorter bursts, so I pulled out my 20+ year old word processor and hooked it up. to my intense surprise it actually works! It's slow and clunky but I can edit my writing as I go and I can save my work on old fashioned floppies. Unfortunately, when it comes time to transfer my work to PC I'll have to re-type it all because the data isn't transferable.

I also rediscovered all the things I was writing on before I discovered fandom. Mostly fantasy and about half of it is het. I know the longest piece has been re-typed and saved on a flashdrive, but there's a lot of other stuff I'd forgotten about. When I get my PC back again I'm going to take some time to get the balance of it transferred. I might never do anything else with them, but I don't want to lose them either.

The History Channel is running an Apocalypse week. Rudy Reyes of Generation Kill was a rather convincing Apocalypse Man and showed everyone ways to survive in a post-apoc city. Some interesting stuff. Of course Rudy is an ex-Recon Marine and martial arts expert so several of his stunts, while informative and theoretically helpful, can only b accomplished by someone in better than ordinary shape. Still, I now know that I can start a fire with steel wool and a D cell battery and how to bank it so that it's damn near impossible to be seen, even from a few feet away in a darkened building. I also now, theoretically, how to make diesel fuel out of gross, used cooking oil and a couple of other fairly easily found things. Kinda cool.

And strangely enough, I have the burning need to write a supernatural apoc xover with SPN and Black Hawk Down. I want a young teenaged Dean and an even younger Sam, cut off from John, to come across Delta Force Operator Hoot. Hoot may be a killing machine, but he has absoultely no clue how to deal with demons and other critters. They'd make interesting travelling companions, don't you think? *G*

OK, stupid library computers. I'm about to be timed out, so later.

apocalypse, spn, black hawk down
