Last week when I was twiddling around at home with bum knees after my accident, spending way too much time on the computer (because I shouldn't have been sitting upright but had my legs propped up instead), I spent way too much money online.
One of the hobbies I consistently come back to over the years is making natural body care products - lotions, creams, facial scrubs, etc. It's fun but not necessarily cheap when you're starting out, and I haven't indulged in awhile but probably will a lot more because it's something that doesn't aggravate my arthritis.
So, I spent way too much money but I've been eagerly awaiting the shipments (2 via US postal and 4 via UPS). Because those people shipping UPS are agreeable enough to supply tracking numbers I knew that one was going to be delivered Friday when I was at work. No problem. He'd either leave the package at the office or deliver it on Monday when another was due to be delivered and I'd be home. I made a point of staying home, not only for the packages but for my knees.
I get home Friday night and there's a UPS notice on the door saying the package was left at the office. Great. Unfortunately my off hours and the office hours don't jive until Monday, but that's not a problem. C'est la vie.
I called the apartment office on Monday morning - no package. Still not a problem. He probably got down there, she was out running around somewhere and he didn't come back up to the 3rd floor to change the notice. No biggie, he'll bring it with package #2 which the tracking system says is still on time.
I wait all day. No knock. Later I think to check online again and the UPS site says that both of my packages were delivered to the office at 2:33 PM and signed for. WTF? I check the front door to see if a notice got left because maybe he came and knocked like a mouse during the 60 seconds I was watering plants on the balcony or in the bathroom. No notice.
Unfortunately now the office is closed and I can't pick up my packages until Tues! I was pissed. I called UPS and went through automated hell for about 5 minutes until I could talk to a real person. Then I have to make her understand. No, I'm not asking that my packages be delivered to another address, I'm asking that they be delivered to the address (including the apartment number) on the shipping label, not to the office because the driver was too lazy to climb the stairs.
He's getting paid quite a bit of money to climb those stairs. I tell her (and her supervisor) that what I'm trying to say is that their tracking system says I'm getting a package on Tues and another on Wed and that I'm going to be home and I bloody well expect the deliveries to be made to the 3rd floor and not the office. If I can climb up (middle aged, over weight and aching knees) so can the driver. She says she'll make sure it's taken care of.
So this morning I went down and picked up the 2 "almost delivered" packages. I now have 3 of the 'ingredients' packages (one came in the mail) and one of the book deliveries (it came in the mail today). I'm very happy but can't really do anything until today's package arrives with the final ingredients.
At 1:45 there's a knock on the door. It's UPS. He's middle aged and a little overweight. But not as old or overweight as me, so no sympathy points. He didn't say a word and hardly looked at me. He just held out the electronic pad. He's obviously been 'talked to'. I sign and return it and he handed me the small box. I told him very politely "Thank you". For a second I thought he was going to sullen-up even further and refuse to say anything, but he did come out with a respectable "You're welcome". Good. I don't have to go through automated hell with UPS again.
It'll be interesting to see if it's the same driver and the same attitude tomorrow. I certainly don't like to get people in trouble, and in fact, probably wouldn't have said anything at all even if I was pissed, except for the fact that I wasn't going to go through this crap 2 more days in a row.
So, now I'm happy like a pink pig in rose scented mud clay mask. *G*
