Floating victory.

I'm still in tremendous pain, so I'm not going to make this a long one. Despite pain both large and small, nausea, and faintness, today was a good day. The exam board at the university sat today, and I asked a friend to ask my supervisor how I had done. As I was about to sit down to lunch I got a phone call.

Hello, Iwan? I got a note saying that you wanted to know what your degree results were. I can confirm that I indeed have your degree results, and I will now proceed to inform you of them. In your degree you have received a... *BOOP BOOP BOOP*

The call had disconnected. I howled with anguish as I felt like one of those guys Chris Tarrant strings along and then calls for an advert break. I was too injured to try and move to an area with better mobile reception, so I had no choice but to eat an incredibly tense lunch before I could go and make a return call.

Eventually the time came around where I could hobble to an area that afforded me three bars. This was sufficient. I made the call and heard:

Yes, in the matter of your MSc, you have been awarded a Pass with Distinction.

I almost dropped my cane and jumped into the pond below me. A Distinction. The highest possible Master's degree classification. The dream has finally been achieved after two failed attempts to establish myself in the top flight. This heals a lot of old wounds. I will rue no more the old days when I fell short of where I wanted to be. I was capable after all.

There are other things to talk about, but this will be my only thought for now. It's probably the biggest milestone in my life so far, so I think it deserves its own entry. The day I succeeded in my top objective. And that objective wasn't to point at sticks. It feels good.
