back home

I have been back in the United States for about 18 hours now, and already I am amused by the things that I forgot about America, some good, some bad.

Good things
My family.  They are wonderful.  My mom, sister, and cousin came to pick me up from the airport and it was wonderful :)
Cheese. I went to a Mexican restaurant and had 1,000,000 calories worth of spicey cheesey quesadilla-y goodness!
English. It's everywhere!!!!!!
Loudness: Holy crap Americans talk loudly! I love it! I  no longer feel like I'm the loudest person in the room!

Bad things
Rudeness. I totally forgot how incredibly rude people can be.  Especially service people.  Mind you, I know how much it sucks working in a service position having done it, but in Japan EVERYONE acts professional when it comes to thier jobs. They are over the top friendly with smiles (fake or not) on thier faces.  Whenever I go out shopping or to a restaurant they add to the overall enjoyment of my experience.  (The reason why I am harping on this is because at the restaurant I went to this cute little old man came in looking for his friends to have lunch with and the waitress was incredibly rude with him and rolled her eyes when he couldn't find them)
Jet lag; It's 4 in the morning, and I am wide awake. Sigh.

Largeness: This doesn't go under good things or bad things, just an observation... The portion sizes here are ridiculous.  So is the fat content.  No wonder Americans are such large people. That being said, I love not feeling like an elephant in a China store. I look normal. I do not tower over people or feel that they are looking at me and thinking wow, you are so large you must be an American. Woot.

At any rate, it's great to be home in the good ol' U S of A.
