Why does NYC have to be so damn expensive? It makes me sadface all over the place. I'd really like to go, so I am carefully planning a budget and trying to see how much money I'd need, and even for an overnight stay it's amazing. I admit that mainly I would like to visit for the museums, (Natural History Museum and the Met) so it's a bit less ( Read more... )

Ok I loved the 9th and 10th doctor but Matt smith egggghhh. I'm not sure what to say. I watched them bc well I love dw but not as good as the old series. Its up to you but you're not missing anything great. I loved like only 3 episodes with the new doctor. Up to u but if theres nothing on you should watch them. The doctor says some funny things though.

Matt Smith was actually my first Doctor, so I dunno...I kind of like him? XD I have a few DW friends and they're also divided between old/new series.

For the record, if you plan it carefully, a lot of the museums have periods of free admission - the MoMA is free on Friday nights, and both the Met and the Natural History Museum have 'suggested' admission fees, so you don't have to pay if you can't afford it.

Also, let me know if you want a list of some excellent hole-in-the-wall cheap places to eat. :) (Although sadly most of them aren't in the museum district.)

I went to this really great hummus place the last time I was there. It was amazing. I could eat their mushroom hummus for years and not tire of it. But yeah, food recs are always great!

Also thanks for the free admission tip. Museum of Modern Art would be on the list, too, if I have time. Meanwhile, do you know anyone who stayed at Pink Hostels? If so, how did they like it?

I don't think I do know anyone who's stayed there, unfortunately.

As far as food recs go, though, if you're looking for cheap tasty food, there's this great block on MacDougal Street right above Bleecker that has Mamoun's Falafel (known as the best cheap falafel in the city), the original Kati Roll Company, Artichoke Basille Pizza (famous NYC pizza company), a dedicated macaroni-and-cheese restaurant, and a creperie all within ten feet of each other. Every time I walk through that area I just kind of have to stop and turn around in helpless circles for a while before deciding what I'm actually going to eat!
