the one sin the gods never forgive us is that of being born women.

I'm tired of hearing about Laura Logan's sexual assault. Not because I don't think it's highly important that we focus on such issues, or that I don't think sexual assault deserves coverage, but rather because it's clear that women's issues are not the focus of all this coverage. All the articles on it seem to be focusing on how evil the Middle East is, how dangerous it is for women there, and how women's issues are so horrible...in Egypt.

All of this is disingenuous. Fact of the matter is, hundreds of women in our own damn country are attacked, assaulted, and raped as well- it's the matter of global rape culture and not the matter of a particular nationality or creed. It's a poisonous, universal mindset that blames the victims, objectifies women, and dismisses sexual violence as excusable. I could also state how I despise how Islam is yet again being bashed for this, how men are concern-trolling over how dangerous it is for women to go abroad, and of course, how Debbie fucking Schlussel victim-blames Logan for going there in the first place, making gross statements about how 'Islam fan Laura Logan gets a taste of Islam.' Fuck you Debbie and fuck the rest of the disgusting people commenting on this case. Which goes for everyone. Absolutely everyone.

Why? Because it's been made clear in interviews that Laura Logan NEVER wanted this to be covered. She and her family have made the request for privacy. It's horrible that she's being named, it's horrible that her assault has become a public, breaking issue, it's horrible that no one has listened to her or respected her need for silence and privacy. Everything about this issue has been horrible, the press coverage, the Islam-bashing that fails to note the crowd of women who rescued Logan, the victim-blaming, the concern trolling, etc. This on top of all the political bullshit we have going on at home is giving me rage fits.

politics, depressed, rape, stop waving that privilege around, i hate the human race, sexism, racism, islam
