The weekend was far preferable to last week. I spent Saturday going to the mall and haphazardly shopping for stuff, (although I didn't manage to get a present for my baby sis's birthday until Sunday,) and aflightoffancy and I had lunch at the kaitenzushi (conveyor belt sushi) place in the middle of the mall. We seemed to have timed it just right so that when we sat down, the conveyor belt was packed with plates of sushi and even the occasional chocolate mousse cup, which I never get to grab. Suffice to say, I snatched one up right away, even before choosing the sushi I wanted to eat. I love that place, if only for the novelty value of watching all these plates of sushi slide by and just plucking them up as they come! I got the rainbow roll, the dragon roll, and the chef's special, which was a roll with crayfish cooked and mixed in some kind of sauce.

Also, I kind of need a new book series to latch onto. I'd forgotten what it was like to latch onto an ongoing book series and all the frustration that comes with waiting for the next book. (NK Jemisin's 'Kingdom of Gods' is presumably coming out this year, but oh, the waiting!) The Hunger Games was my last fanatic following and fortunately for me, the books were already all out. I think I would have died waiting for Mockingjay if I'd only had The Hunger Games and Catching Fire to read. As it was, I made a mad, last-minute dash to the book store to buy the final book. ANYTHING TO GET MY FIX.

I kind of miss the old Harry Potter days when I was still in the fandom and it was churning out fic. HP is one of those fandoms in which I love to read fanfiction, but I just don't feel comfortable writing it because I've lost touch with the source material. I guess I'm slowly rereading the first book (along with my class) but it's just not the same! I'd like to eventually buy the paperback set and stage a full series reread, though. In my memory, I liked the books 1-4 very much, and enjoyment started to slide after that.

harry potter, books, real life
