So, this week's fail involves the current winner of the Miss American pageant, Rima Fakih of Michigan. She's the first Muslim to be crowned as Miss USA, which...I'm not sure how much of a step forward I can see that as. I am personally against beauty pageants and everything they stand for, anyway, unless we get a Mr. America that objectifies male beauty and has them sauntering across the aisles in sexy speedos.
But, still. First Muslim Miss USA, a step forward in the whitewashed standard of beauty, if nothing else. Which means we have annoying conservative morons bitching about how it must be affirmative action because gosh, a minority can't win in a contest against a bleach blonde white woman, and even coming up with the conspiracy theory that Fakih has ties to a terrorist organization. Because all Muslims are terrorists.
Excuse me while I chew furiously on my pillow. Because, racist assumptions aside, what kind of fucking stupid plan would it be to take over a beauty pageant? Especially, what sort of mentally-misshapen douchenozzle would think that extremist Muslims would have anything to do with a beauty pageant that involves walking around in revealing clothing? And what does anyone have to gain from that? Is the idea that the secret, wicked agenda is to turn the current image of beauty into a more ethnic ideal? Well, the current standard of beauty is bleach-blonde white with blue eyes. Can we accuse those girls of being terrorists for the conservative agenda? That makes about as much sense as this.
